Hulu delivers an in-depth first look at its 9/11 drama The Handmaid's Tale in of the series' potential for earning the prestige label.

The Looming Tower was announced several months ago, and it made waves with the casting of Jeff Daniels, who, when he's not appearing in films like Godless, Netflix's visually stunning Western from Scott Frank. And now, it looks as though he'll stay on the streaming side of things with this new series set to premiere in February.

Along with the first look at the series, Hulu also released a brief synopsis of the series that reads:

"Based on the Pulitzer-Prize winning book, The Looming Tower traces the rising threat of Osama Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda in the late 1990s and how the rivalry between the FBI and CIA during that time may have inadvertently set the path for the tragedy of 9/11. The series follows of the I-49 Squad in New York and Alec Station in Washington, D.C., the counter-terrorism divisions of the FBI and CIA, respectively, as they travel the world fighting for ownership of information while seemingly working toward the same goal – trying to prevent an imminent attack on U.S. soil."

The featurette does it's job pretty well, showing off the impressive cast that includs Peter Sarsgaard (Sneaky Pete). There's even a brief glimpse of Alec Baldwin, who ed the series last spring. Mostly, though, aside from the cast, the video gives a better understanding of what the series is and how its trying to untangle the complicated web created by the US intelligence community to better understand the events that led to 9/11.

As far as prestige dramas go, The Looming Tower could be a big one for Hulu in 2018. Coming off the Emmy-winning success of The Handmaid's Tale, the service is certainly riding high, but also has to contend with the high bar taking home that trophy sets. If anything, this looks like a mix between The Post and Homeland, which could pull in a broad audience, so long as they're in the mood for some pretty heavy material.
