Warning: contains a preview of The Incredible Hulk #4!The accept his place as Marvel's God of Monsters.
In Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Travel Foreman, Matt Wilson, and Cory Petit's The Incredible Hulk #4, the Hulk will take on the Man-Thing. Introduced to movie continuity in Disney+'s Werewolf by Night, Theodore "Ted" Sallis is one of Marvel's most underrated powerhouses. Connected to the Nexus of Realities, Man-Thing essentially guards humanity from extradimensional incursions. Man-Thing has many powers, but his most famous is his acid - a powerful compound that is only produced when he senses fear. Now, it turns out Hulk's famous invulnerability doesn't extend to Ted's excretions. Enjoy the issue's cover and official summary below:
Hulk Is Vulnerable to Man-Thing's Acid
THE GREEN GIANTS THROW DOWN! HULK VS. MAN-THING! Trouble awaits in the foggy bogs when a sultry seductress of the swamp lures unsuspecting victims into her trap! What is this mysterious creature’s connection to the Swamp Walker himself? It’s rage versus empathy as these two green goliaths come to blows - and even the Hulk isn’t immune to Man-Thing’s deadly acid! Guest artist Travel Foreman s Phillip Kennedy Johnson for a twisted two-part tale!
Recently, Hulk defeated the eldritch monstrosity known as the One Below All, changing the ecosystem of Marvel's magic. In the aftermath, the demonic Eldest is on a mission to free something called 'the Mother of Monsters.' In the recent Incredible Hulk #1, the Eldest was able to take control of all Marvel's monsters - from underground Moloids to the Ghost Rider - and force them to hunt down and attack the Hulk, who is integral to freeing the Eldest's demonic matriarch. Now, Marvel has confirmed that Man-Thing and Hulk will clash, and that the Green Goliath can be burned away to nothing by Man-Thing's powers.
Marvel's Monsters Are Hunting the Hulk
Man-Thing's history has been defined by the iconic phrase "whatever knows fear burns at the Man-Thing's touch!" However, this motto is surprisingly literal - Man-Thing's extradimensional connection seemingly makes it so that it really can destroy anything that's capable of experiencing fear, and that clearly includes the Green Goliath. Able to grow to immense sizes, control plant life, and teleport across dimensions, Man-Thing is all but unbeatable, and in the past has conquered foes such as Gladiator and Hyperion (two near-Superman-level heroes.)
Hulk has tanked Thor's strongest blows and fought back Doctor Strange's magic, but Man-Thing's powers are something altogether different. Recently, Hulk's biology was reconfigured after Bruce Banner unsuccessfully tried to hijack total control of their shared body, leaving fans with questions about what exactly could potentially kill this new Hulk - the answer, it turns out, is the Man-Thing.
The Incredible Hulk #4 is coming from Marvel September 13.
