While stumbling through the Flooded Fortress in Bahari Bay in Palia, you might have come across a vase that seems completely irrelevant and then, instead, kicked off a quest relating to Old Coins. The Old Coin quest is one that many will accidentally discover rather than intentionally seek out; luckily, there are only three Old Coins in total to find.
To complete this quest and find all three Old Coins, you will first need to have the glider unlocked, which they can only obtain after completing the Ancient Battery quest in Palia. With the glider, head over to Bahari Bay's Flooded Fortress to begin the Old Coin quest and uncover the mysteries associated with the Phoenix Statue.
All the Old Coins will be collected by interacting with vases similar to the one that kicks off the quest. Simply finding the vase is not enough to count it. Collect the Old Coin from it for the game to consider that coin found.
The First Old Coin Location
The Old Coins do have to be collected in a specific order because the next one will only appear once the previous one has been found. So no need to worry about accidentally finding the last one before the second one; it won't even have spawned. Once reaching the Flooded Fortress, make your way up to the second floor via climbing vines or however is most convenient. After reaching the upper level, head inside and go down to the Phoenix Statue, which will be the center of a large circular room.
Head over behind the Phoenix Statue, where a white and gold vase should sit rather inconspicuously. This is the start of the Old Coin quest, as this is the first of three vases that must be found.
Go to the vase and interact with it to receive the first Old Coin. Before moving on to find the rest, the objective will request asking around about it. Most won't know anything and will all direct toward Zeki. Speaking with Zeki will reveal that there are more Old Coins, and once they are placed in the Phoenix Statues' mouth, they reveal a fortune. Therefore, the task from here on out is finding the rest of the Old Coins.
The Second Old Coin Location
Though this quest in Palia can be frustrating, the rest takes place inside the Flooded Fortress, so it should take less time to complete. Head back to the Flooded Fortress after speaking with Zeki. Since the first Old Coin has already been found, only two more remain. The second vase should have spawned on the northern side of the Flooded Fortress. Climb up the cliffs until the sewer grate can be seen. The second vase can be seen sitting on the edge of the path connecting to it. Head over to interact with it and collect the second coin.
The next vase will only spawn once the previous one has been interacted with and the Old Coin is collected. Therefore, many players grow frustrated because they attempt to search the area all at once and believe they have already checked every area, but, likely, the vase is yet to spawn, so previous areas may need to be re-checked after each vase. If it wasn't there before, it might be now. For this reason, it is recommended to grab the vases in order rather than explore the Flooded Fortress, hoping to find all three by chance.
The Third Old Coin Location
The third Old Coin is the one that requires the Glider, which should've been one of the first things to unlock in Palia. Position yourself so that you are opposite the top of the staircase but facing out towards the vine-covered columns. Glide over to the long pathway, and then from there, Glide again over to the broken vine-covered column. The vase should be clearly visible at the top of the column. Once the third Old Coin has been collected, it's time to return to the Phoenix Statue to obtain the fortunes. They can be obtained after each individual coin if not wanting to wait, but doing them all at once is the most time-efficient method.
How To Get Phoenix Statue Fortunes
When approaching the Phoenix Statue in Palia, near where the first Old Coin was found, it will glow to indicate that it can be interacted with. Use the Old Coins to obtain three numbered fortunes from the Phoenix Statue. To actually progress in completing the Old Coin quest, the fortunes must be read, not just collected. Recalling Zeki's fortune, which stated ominously, "No mere flesh can withstand the ravages of time," go ahead and read through the rest of the fortunes.
- Old Coin Number 1: "For millennia, Humankind has searched for the key to immortality"
- Old Coin Number 2: "Finally, after much sacrifice, our intrepid researchers have found a solution deep in the heart of the forest"
- Old Coin Number 3: "Dr. Fortuna's All Natural, Mushroom-infused, Age-defying, Multi-Vitamin is now available at a store near you! Present this coupon to save 10% on your first bottle"
For those making these fortunes one at a time, thinking they were building up to some largely mysterious and exciting reveal, it is not the case. The last fortune presents a funny but disappointing revelation that evokes a similar feeling to finding all Korok Seeds in Zelda: Breath of the Wild. There is no big reward,, and it is all part of a large ad campaign for Dr. Fortuna's Multi-Vitamin, which has no real meaning.
To finish off the quest, return to Zeki to let him know what the remaining fortunes revealed. After which, both of you can enjoy a laugh at being fooled by ancient humans who used this as a clever advertising method. Zeki takes note of this genius method for advertising products and then will present you with a reward.
Zeki will hand over one Lucky Gold Coin, and you will also receive 10 Renown for your efforts. The Lucky Coin can be used to purchase a Lucky Box containing a randomized reward of materials or furniture. Speaking with Zeki will officially mark the end of the Old Coin quest with this Palia mystery solved.
