How to Train Your Dragon is mounting a 2025 comeback with the release of a live-action adaptation, and a new video game will be launching ahead of the film. The world of How to Train Your Dragon is no stranger to game adaptations, having previously received a number of tie-in experiences for the animated films, TV series, and universe at large.
ScreenRant can exclusively reveal the debut trailer for DreamWorks How to Train Your Dragon: Riders of the Skies, a new game available on May 22 on the Nex Playground system. Riders of the Skies utilizes the Nex Playground's motion controls for an active play dragon-riding experience.
The trailer, below, showcases the process of selecting a dragon, guiding it in flight, and aiming at wooden targets through the use of arm motions and gestures.
Riders Of The Sky Focuses On Dragon Flight
Taking To The Virtual Skies
Targeted at kids and families, How to Train Your Dragon: Riders of the Skies includes game maps from the How to Train Your Dragon world and Training Mode, which provides target practice and an opportunity to transport sheep in Berk's unconventional fashion. Single-player and two-player modes are available, although the options start short of the chaos that bringing in three or four players might generate. Hiccup's iconic companion Toothless is among the game's dragon companions, along with Deadly Nadder, Gronckle, and more.

Those who already own a Nex Playground and have an active subscription to the system's Play service can access How to Train Your Dragon: Riders of the Skies at no additional cost. This is the third collaboration between DreamWorks and Nex Playground, following Gabby's Dollhouse: A-meow-zing Moves and Kung Fu Panda Train Like A Master.
A How To Train Your Dragon Game For A Specific Audience
More Fun For Younger Fans
How to Train Your Dragon: Riders of the Skies is a very different experience from the DreamWorks Dragons games released on other platforms in recent years, which focus less on flight and more on a broader action-adventure experience. While both should be fun for fans, Riders of the Skies might be more accessible for particularly young players.
In a way, the Nex Playground's motion controls bring things full circle to the Wii release of the original 2010 How to Train Your Dragon tie-in game. The Nex Playground is entirely controller-free, however, using full-body camera tracking more similar to Xbox's Kinect system. For younger fans and families excited for the release of the live-action How To Train Your Dragon movie, Riders of the Skies looks like a fun venture into the skies above Berk for its target audience.
