Three years after Generation 8's launch, Gen 9 Pokémon Scarlet and Violet this Fall, Game Freak has announced that they are going to make the Legendary Pokémon's Shiny variant available for the very first time. Players can unlock the rare alternate version of Eternatus for free in just a few easy steps.

Towards the end of Pokémon Sword and Shield's story, players are introduced to Eternatus as the game's final boss. The giant Dragon-type is awakened by Chairman Rose, who is trying to trigger a second 'Darkest Day' event with the Legendary's immense powers. After foiling his plan, players are then able to catch the Galar Legendary. Even though trainers are able to control Eternatus and even battle with it, the Dragon-type is not able to Dynamax or transform into its Eternamax Eternatus form either.

While the Pokémon Sword and Shield Crown Tundra DLC would eventually expand the Galar Pokédex in 2020, Eternatus was still one of the few Gen 8 Pokémon that was Shiny-locked. After years of waiting, the Legendary will finally be available as a Shiny starting on Friday, September 18. The Pokémon Company has announced that select retailers will give out free code cards. Below are the steps that players will need to complete to unlock Shiny Eternatus in Pokémon Sword and Shield.
