After years of waiting, Final Fantasy 16 has finally arrived for PlayStation 5 consoles, allowing players to experience and beat an all-new game in the franchise. The title follows the story of Clive Rosfield, the son of the archduke of the Grand Duchy of Rosaria. Clive is expected to be the heir to the throne as Dominant of the Eikon Phoenix, but after a tragic event involving his brother, Joshua, he discovers he is, in fact, Dominant of the Dark Eikon, Ifrit. To complete Final Fantasy 16, players must make their way through a continent at war and uncover the secrets within.

The new title in the franchise, once again, steps away from its turn-based roots and offers a real-time action combat system, in which players control every single one of Clive’s actions. With it, players can mix weapons and magic to create their own playstyle while they venture through the story-heavy campaign. Despite the change in pace, this is a fully-fledged Final Fantasy game, and it should take a good number of hours to beat FF16.

Screen Rant has played Square Enix’s new game and can confirm that it takes approximately 40 hours to beat Final Fantasy 16. This is by playing the game and primarily focusing on the main story, which means deviating very little to complete side objectives. If players do not stop to engage in any secondary quests, they should be able to complete the game in less time. In direct opposition to that, if players tend to participate in side quests, they will likely take much longer to complete the game, potentially increasing how long it takes to beat FF16 by quite a few hours.

How Long It Takes To Platinum Final Fantasy 16

As a PlayStation-exclusive game, FF16 has a series of objectives that allow players to obtain a Platinum Trophy – obtaining it essentially means completing 100% of the title. To be able to Platinum Final Fantasy 16, one of the required tasks is that players complete the title in New Game Plus on the highest difficulty, which is only unlocked after a first completion. This means that players will probably take at least 80 hours to complete both campaign runs. On top of that, there are side objectives and secondary trophies to obtain as well, which means it may take longer than 80 hours depending on the player’s approach and skill level.

The new Square Enix title was considered a “fully realized masterwork of its genre” in Screen Rant’s Final Fantasy 16 review, which complimented its world design, combat, story, and more. The title follows the divisive reception of Final Fantasy 15, so its positive evaluation is a good sign for the series. Final Fantasy 16 is now available for PlayStation 5 consoles globally.
