Viewers finally got to meet and hang out with the mother, Tracy, albeit for not as long as fans would have liked. Despite the many ups and downs, the final season presents some amazing moments. Here are some of the best quotes from the final season to what was a great show.

"When You Believe In People, People Come Through."

Robin is afraid that when Barney hears about his brother and Tom's divorce, he will get cold feet. She is worried that Barney might panic and decide to call off their wedding.

But in the voiceover, Ted talks about how it's important to trust and believe in people. This turns out to be right, as the viewers see how Barney doesn't react in the way that Robin expects him to. Barney comes through. He is as solid as a rock and Robin didn't have to worry about it.

"No Matter How Awkward You Feel, If You're Not There For Him, You Will Always Regret It."

Lily drops gems of wisdom throughout this season. She gives many pep talks, especially to Ted, about how to manage his life. In this particular instance, she picks on how Ted has been avoiding Barney. Ted is awkward because of the carousel incident and his realization about his lingering feelings for Robin. Ted is the best man and wants to be there for Barney, but the awkwardness makes it difficult for him.

Lily points out that how no matter how he feels, if he isn't there for his friend at such an important time, he would always regret it.

"I Love Our Story. Sure, It's Messy, But It's The Story That Got Us Here, About To Get Married."

To impress the Reverend, Barney and Robin steal the cute story of how Marshall and Lily met. The Reverend is impressed but later finds out that it is not actually their story. They both initially seem to be unhappy about how complicated and messy their relationship was, and how they didn't have a cute story about how they met.

But towards the end of the episode, they realize that it doesn't matter and they own their story. In a humorous back-and-forth, they tell their actual story and how they are unapologetically happy about how they got to where they are now.

"I've Never Asked Lily To Do Anything No Questions Asked Because I've Never Wanted To."

In a very touching moment towards the end of quite a chaotically funny episode, No-Questions-Asked card.

They have all used this on each other to get out of really sticky situations that they don't want to explain to their friends. But Marshall didn't think of calling in a No-Questions-Asked with Lily because they never had any need to do this with each other before.

"You Know What Comes After The One? The Next One."

Tracy's roommate says this and even though it is meant to be a joke, it somehow ends up true for both Tracy and Ted. Tracy lost her soulmate, and Ted's soulmate married his best friend. These two people who were convinced of their ideas of "The One" don't actually end up with the people who they thought were "The Ones" for them.

So this quote, funny as it is, also shows that what Robin said about timing and chemistry is true. If Ted and Tracy had met each other at a different time, things may just have been different. They had to wait for the next one.

"Whatever You Do In This Life, It's Not Legendary Unless Your Friends Are There To See It."

On the eve of his wedding, Barney goes on a drunken adventure where he finds two young boys and decides to teach them "how to live," as he did with Ted.

One of the final lessons Barney gave to the boys was about how things are legendary only if your friends are around to see them. The entire philosophy of How I Met Your Mother, and of this character, Barney Stinson, is summed up in those 17 words.

"Kids, No Matter How Hard We Try, Even The Best Of Us Go A Little Too Wild Sometimes."

In the aftermath of the drunk Barney debacle, all of the gang vows never to get that drunk. But they all end up breaking that vow at various instances in their lives. The episode jumps forward in time to show the viewers this.

In a voice-over, old Ted tells his kids that everyone, including their mother, has those days when she let a little loose. It's quite the cute ending to an episode that showed how even the most responsible person is sometimes a little irresponsible.

"Love's The Best Thing We Do."

Ted has many many cheesy, cute, loveable, cringy, adorable, foolish things to say about love. At various instances on the show, Ted has monologues about love.

When Robin is panicking about how her relationship and marriage with Barney makes no sense, and when she starts to get cold feet, Ted helps her out. He tells her that things don't have to "make sense, to make sense." Just because their story doesn't fit into the narrative they have built up in their heads about what love should look like, doesn't mean that it's not love.

"We Will Always Be There For The Big Moments."

The gang is growing up and everyone has their own families that they are busy with, so Lily makes them promise that they should always be there for the big moments. Slowly, they start hanging out with each other less and nights at MacLaren's are not as usual as they used to be.

Robin eventually fades out of their lives, that is until Ted and Tracy's wedding. This time, it is Robin who reminds Lily of the promise she made to be there for the big moments.

"We'll Always Be Friends. It's Just Never Gonna Be How It Was. It Can't Be. And That Doesn't Have To Be A Sad Thing."

Lily likes to believe that they can remain just the way they were. But Robin is more pragmatic - she understands that things have changed and that things will continue to change and that's not necessarily a bad thing. Though she starts out with some uncomfortable truths, she goes on to point out the many new and exciting things that are happening in everyone's lives.

While it was true that they could never go back to their irresponsible, young, stupid nights, they had to move forward, finding joy in the new things in their lives.
