This includes having new movies arrive by acclaimed filmmakers like M. Night Shyamalan, Robert Eggers, and Tim Burton, as well as the Radio Silence duo and Ti West. 16 Never Let Go — September 20, 2024

Halle Berry is set to star in a new horror movie Never Let Go in 2024. It comes from experienced horror director Alexandre Aja, who helmed The Hills Have Eyes, Crawl, and Oxygen. The movie centers around a family tormented by an evil spirit as their lives become more dangerous when one of the kids questions if the evil is real. Once he stops believing and breaks the protective bond in their home, evil forces return, and the family has to fight for their survival.

Aside from Halle Berry, the confirmed Never Let Go cast include Percy Daggs IV and Anthony B. Jenkins.

Berry is the only name star in the horror movie, which is set to debut at Fantastic Fest on September 19, 2024, one day before it arrives in theaters. The original premiere date was supposed to be September 27, but when Saw XI moved off the schedule, Never Let Go moved up a week to take its former spot. The movie's trailer promises a lot of scares and the appearance that nothing is as it seems in this remote cabin in the woods.

15 Salem's Lot — October 3, 2024

A Salem's Lot remake has been expected for a few years but remains unreleased. Salem's Lot's cast includes Spencer Treat Clark, Lewis Pullman, Pilou Asbæk, Alfre Woodard, Bill Camp, and others. The new take on Stephen King's 1975 novel comes from director Gary Dauberman (Annabelle Comes Home). It previously had release dates slated for 2022 and 2023, but New Line eventually pulled it from its schedule.

Salem's Lot will be released on Max.

However, the good news is that Salem's Lot is now confirmed to premiere in 2024. The movie features the same story as the novel and previous movies, with Pullman starring as Mears, a writer who returns to Jerusalem's Lot hoping to find inspiration to write something new. What he finds are vampires. The first trailer arrived in September 2024, and the film will open Beyond Fest on September 25 and then premiere on Max on October 3.

14 Terrifier 3 — October 11, 2024

Directed By Damien Leone

The Terrifier franchise returns in 2024 with Terrifier 3, marking the return of Art the Clown. Director Damien Leone is back behind the camera, and Samantha Scaffidi as Victoria Heyes will return in a more prominent role in the third film. Terrifier 3's other confirmed cast are David Howard Thornton as Art, Chris Jericho as Burke, Elliot Fullam as Jonathan Shaw, and Lauren LaVera returns as Sienna after Terrifier 2.

The third installment in the franchise will be released theatrically in October 2024, perfectly timed for the Halloween season. According to the trailer, it seems that Sienna is out for revenge against Art the Clown, so while he is still the cold-blooded killer, he might end up as the hunted this time around. With most of the trailer showing Art dressed up as Santa Claus and killing at Christmas, the main lure is the battle between Sienna and Art, the only two characters appearing in all three movies.

13 Smile 2 — October 18, 2024

Following the first movie's release in 2022, the Smile franchise returns two years later with a sequel in October 2024. Smile 2's story has only been hinted at, but the cast includes Kyle Gallner as Joel, Naomi Scott, Lukas Gage, Rosemarie DeWitt, Dylan Gelula, Raúl Castillo, and Miles Gutierrez-Riley. The hope is that Marti Matulis will return as The Smile Monstrosity, but his involvement hasn't been confirmed.

Rosemarie DeWitt previously starred as Amy Bowen in Poltergeist (2015).

Parker Finn returns to direct and write the sequel, which was filmed from January to March 2024 in Hudson Valley, New York. Based on the movie's trailer, a pop star named Sky Riley (Naomi Scott) remains haunted by the death of a close friend. This leads to the same trauma as the first movie, but this time, it is the star's smiling fans who start to haunt her. She seeks out an expert on the Smile Entity as she tries to regain control of her life while Joel is still searching for answers after the first movie.

12 Heretic — November 15, 2024

Directed By Scott Beck And Bryan Woods

Scott Beck and Bryan Woods return to the horror genre in 2024 with Heretic. The writers of A Quiet Place, who shifted to sci-fi with 2023's dinosaur film 65, are back with a new scary movie. Heretic is about two female Mormon missionaries who become the focus of a strange man's games. The movie is set to star Yellowjackets' Sophie Thatcher and The Fabelmans' Chloe East as the two girls, with Hugh Grant playing the creepy older man.

Heretic was granted an interim agreement to continue production during the SAG-AFTRA strike in 2023.

The film already premiered at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival in September and will hit theaters right before Thanksgiving. Heretic also received mostly favorable reviews for its festival appearance. It has an 88% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics praising all three main performers in the movie, making it much greater than the "escape room" scenario in which it places its protagonists.

11 Nosferatu — December 25, 2024

Directed By Robert Eggers

Robert Eggers' Nosferatu reimagining is arriving in 2024 to give horror movie audiences a fresh look at an iconic story. Lily-Rose Depp stars as a young woman named Ellen who becomes the target of the ancient vampire's stalking in the film, while the titular vampire is played by Bill Skarsgård. Nosferatu's cast is incredibly exciting, thanks to the appearances of Willem Dafoe, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Nicholas Hoult, Emma Corrin, and Ralph Ineson.

Nosferatu is based on Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror, F. W. Murnau's 1922 silent German Expressionist vampire film starring Max Schreck as Count Orlok.

Focus Features has confirmed plans to release Nosferatu on Christmas Day 2024. Interestingly, Willem Dafoe played the vampire in the movie Shadow of the Vampire in 2000, a film that played out like a biopic of the original Nosferatu's making, but supposing that Max Shreck was a real vampire cast in the movie. It is also a re-teaming of Eggers and Defoe, who starred in the director's The Lighthouse. The story itself remains a slight mystery, and even the first trailer doesn't reveal much.

10 Adrift — TBD 2024

Directed By Darren Aronofsky

Audiences might also be treated to a horror movie from Darren Aronofsky and Jared Leto in 2024. Adrift has been in development for years and is the second movie Aronofsky and Leto have worked on together after Requiem for a Dream. The horror film is described as a supernatural ghost story set aboard a ship. It is an adaptation of a short story by Koji Suzuki, and the Jared Leto-led movie is set to be produced by horror studio Blumhouse.

Production was expected to begin in 2023, making a 2024 release date for Adrift possible. However, since the news first broke about the movie, nothing has seemingly started. Instead, it seems that Aronofsky's next movie will be a crime drama called Caught Stealing. However, nothing has been said about Adrift not happening. As the year comes to a close, though, it is seemingly unlikely that this horror movie will have a 2024 release.

9 Dust Bunny — TBD 2024

One of 2024's horror movies features a Hannibal reunion of sorts. Bryan Fuller, who developed Hannibal, worked on Dust Bunny, which stars Mads Mikkelsen, who played Dr. Hannibal Lecter in the NBC series. The horror thriller movie follows an eight-year-old girl who asks her neighbor to help her kill a monster under her bed after she thinks it has eaten her family. Aside from Mikkelsen, the cast of Dust Bunny includes Sigourney Weaver and David Dastmalchian.

Dust Bunny was one of the few productions to be granted an interim agreement to continue filming through the SAG-AFTRA strike in 2023.

With Fuller in the director's chair, the excitement levels have been high. This would be his feature film debut after working exclusively in television up to this point. However, despite the production starting in June 2023 and continuing throughout the strike, there has been no release date set by the studio. Mads Mikkelsen said the movie has been shot, so fans are just waiting for a release date and whether it will be a theatrical release, or if it might end up going straight to streaming.

8 Faces of Death — TBD 2024

The horror film Faces of Death comes from director Daniel Goldhaber. After making his directorial debut with Cam in 2018, Goldhaber received excellent reviews for 2022's crime thriller How to Blow Up a Pipeline. 2024 is expected to be Goldhaber's return to horror as Faces of Death's story follows a woman who discovers violent videos that recreate death scenes from movies online.

Faces of Death, which doesn't have a release date yet, is a remake of the 1978 movie by the same name.

Faces of Death stars Euphoria's Barbie Ferreira, Stranger Things' Dacre Montgomery, Saved by the Bell's Josie Totah, singer Charli XCX, and The Blackening's Jermaine Fowler. The new film reportedly honors the first film in the series but updates it for the digital age as the woman who discovers them works for a YouTube-like platform and finds the videos re-enacting the murders from the first movie. However, it isn't clear if they are real murders or faked. Filming is completed, but a release date is still unknown.
