According to a recent report from VGC, a sequel to PC port of Horizon Zero Dawn, to surprisingly mixed reactions from fans of the game.
The PlayStation 5 is set to release late this year, and as Sony continues to release more information about the console, more doubts have been raised about its performance and marketability. Fans have been comparing everything about the new console with its direct competitor, the Xbox Series X, which is set to release around the same time. So far Microsoft's Series X console has seemed like the better investment, particularly in of system power. The future of the PS5 was also hurt by recent reports suggesting that not only will the PS5 be much more expensive but supplies will be incredibly limited, perhaps due to the coronavirus pandemic slowing production. As the planned holiday 2020 release window creeps ever closer, there just isn't as much about the PS5 that's gotten players particularly excited.
A recent report from VGC promises something new that could get players more interested in the console. They claim that multiple sources have confirmed to them that the sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn is set to be released as a PS5 exclusive, and the second game in a trilogy. The report also reveals that the game will feature co-op, which would be a first for the series. Sources could not confirm if the co-op was part of the main story or a separate game mode. The scope of the game's world is allegedly quite large, and the report promises more freedom to explore than was present in the first game. Horizon Zero Dawn was remarkable for its open world, so these claims, if true, are quite impressive.
There has been quite a bit of evidence to suggest that a Horizon Zero Dawn sequel is in the works. Just recently a job listing was posted to Twitter by Guerrilla Games, the development team behind Horizon Zero Dawn. The listing was removed shortly after it was posted, but it indicated that the team was in the process of developing a PS5 game. Ever since the huge success of the first title there have been no shortage of rumors about a sequel, especially after it was unofficially confirmed by actress Janina Gavankar, who did voice work for the original game's DLC expansion The Frozen Wilds.
While VGC's report is far from an official confirmation, it does provide a great deal of information. Assuming the sources can be trusted, fans of Horizon Zero Dawn have a lot to look forward to. It remains to be seen if Guerrilla Games confirms this news, and if so, when. One thing is for certain, though; interest in Horizon Zero Dawn and the franchise it represents still has not waned. If a new Horizon game does release on PlayStation 5, it will be nothing but a good turn for the new console.
