Using Mydei’s best builds in HP-based meta in Honkai: Star Rail, as Mydei’s core mechanics revolve around consuming his own HP to enhance the power of his attacks against enemies.

Mydei’s kit enables him to keep track of the HP he has lost and, upon gathering enough points, he enters the Vendetta state, which boosts his Max HP – and consequently his damage output – and allows him to use an enhanced version of his Skill. As a price, Mydei’s DEF is set to 0, but if he receives a fatal blow during Vendetta, he restores 50% of his HP and returns to battle. To take advantage of Mydei’s kit in Honkai: Star Rail, however, you will need to build him correctly with the right gear choices.

To start working on his build, you will first need to pick a weapon. The best Light Cone for Mydei is Flame Of Blood, Blaze My Path, his signature 5-star Light Cone. This equipment increases the ’s Max HP by 18% and Incoming Healing by 20%. Furthermore, when using Skill or Ultimate, it consumes HP equal to 6% of the ’s Max HP and increases the DMG dealt by 30%. If the HP consumed is greater than 500, the DMG dealt increases an extra 30%. If the HP is not sufficient, the ’s HP goes down to 1.

The table below lists the best builds for Mydei in Honkai: Star Rail, including Light Cone recommendations, ideal Relics and Ornaments, strongest stats, and more:

Best Build For Mydei In Honkai: Star Rail

Light Cone

  1. Flame Of Blood, Blaze My Path (Best 5-star)
  2. The Unreachable Side (Substitute 5-star)
  3. Ninja Record - Sound Hunt (Best 4-star)
  4. Flames Afar (Substitute 4-star)

Relic & Ornament Set

Relics:

  1. Scholar Lost in Erudition (4 pieces)
  2. Longevous Disciple (4 pieces - substitute)

Ornaments:

  • Bone Collection's Serene Demesne (2 pieces)

Stat Priority

  1. HP
  2. CRIT DMG
  3. Imaginary DMG
  4. SPD (ideally, one point over Sunday's SPD)
  5. CRIT Rate (sub-stat, minor increases)

Skill Priority

  1. Skill & Ultimate
  2. Talent
  3. Basic Attack

Flame Of Blood, Blaze My Path plays right into Mydei’s kit because not only does it give him an HP boost, which dictates the power of his attacks, but it also allows him to recover more HP when healed. Moreover, it drains more of his HP per Skill/Ultimate, but compensates for that with a whopping 60% DMG boost if over 500 HP is consumed via the Light Cone’s effect (not considering his Skill’s regular HP loss). This Light Cone requires him to have a high Max HP count for a risky maneuver for better results.

If you’re unable to obtain Mydei’s signature Light Cone, there are other options to choose from. The Unreachable Side, Blade’s signature Light Cone, is also worth equipping, especially if you chose to prioritize Mydei over Blade in Honkai: Star Rail. This Light Cone increases the ’s CRIT Rate by 18% and their Max HP by 18%. When the is attacked or consumes their own HP, their DMG increases by 24%, an effect that is removed after the attack is executed. While it provides fewer DMG increases, it does boost CRIT Rate and Max HP, which are great for Mydei.

You will see that Mydei needs a bit less investment into CRIT Rate through his build than other DPS, but the amount provided by The Unreachable Side may be just enough for you to completely disregard the stat with his Relics and Ornaments.

Because Flame Of Blood, Blaze My Path and The Unreachable Side are both 5-star Light Cones, they may not be at your disposal. In this case, you can look toward the 4-star Light Cone Ninja Record - Sound Hunt. This Light Cone boosts the ’s Max HP by 12% and when losing or restoring HP, it increases their CRIT DMG by 18%, for two turns. For reference, this is an event-exclusive Light Cone in Honkai: Star Rail, so you may not have it.

Alternatively, you can equip Flames Afar. When the ’s cumulative HP loss during one attack exceeds 25% of their Max HP or if the amount of their own HP consumed at once is greater than 25% of their Max HP, the is healed for 15% of their Max HP. Additionally, their DMG is increased by 25% for two turns. The secret to finding the ideal Light Cone for Mydei is looking for one that plays with HP loss and HP fluctuation while also providing the with DMG increases and, preferably, a boost to their Max HP.

CRIT Rate Shouldn’t Be Your Main Focus

Regarding Relics, the best set for Mydei is Scholar Lost in Erudition. The set’s two-piece bonus increases the ’s CRIT Rate by 8%. Its four-piece bonus increases the DMG dealt by the ’s Ultimate and Skill by 20%. Additionally, after using Ultimate, the ’s next Skill usage will deal 25% more DMG. This plays perfectly into Mydei’s kit as he only needs minor bumps to CRIT Rate and most of his damage comes from his Skill and Ultimate in Honkai: Star Rail. You could also use the Longevous Disciple set, but it’s worse than Scholar Lost in Erudition.

The ideal Planar Ornament set for Mydei is Bone Collection’s Serene Demesne. This set’s two-piece bonus increases the ’s Max HP by 12% and when their Max HP is 5,000 or higher, it increases the ’s and their memosprite’s CRIT DMG by 28%. Since Mydei doesn’t have a memosprite, the set won’t be entirely exploited, but he is ensured to have over 5,000 Max HP and the CRIT DMG buff is extraordinary for him. This is likely also going to be the best-in-slot Ornament set for Castorice in Honkai: Star Rail 3.2.

The stats you want to look out for when farming these Relics and Ornaments for Mydei are HP, CRIT DMG, SPD, and Imaginary DMG. A little bit of CRIT Rate is also good, but not too much is needed: Mydei has a ive Trace called Bloodied Chiton. With it, when the battle starts and if Mydei’s Max HP exceeds 4,000, for every 100 excess HP, Mydei’s CRIT Rate increases by 1.2%. Up to 4,000 excess HP can be considered this way, which caps his inert CRIT Rate at a fixed 48% if players reach 8,000 Max HP or more.

A bit more CRIT Rate via sub-stats is recommended to get his stat to around 80%.

Note that on top of his ive, Mydei should also have an extra 8% from the Scholar of Lost Erudition set and 5% from his base kit, taking his total CRIT Rate to 61%. If you have him and completed Sunday’s build in Honkai: Star Rail, you also get an extra 20% from his ive, which takes Mydei’s CRIT Rate to 81%. Furthermore, if you use the Remembrance Trailblazer at E1 or more and target Mydei with Mem’s , he will get another 10% CRIT Rate. As such, your investment for Mydei should be turned toward HP and CRIT DMG.

Best Team Comps For Mydei

The Character Is Best Fit For Hypercarry Teams

The team comps with Mydei can be somewhat varied, but he should always be considered the main DPS in the party. As such, the other are best serving him and enhancing his damage output. Mydei works particularly well with Tribbie because not only does she grant RES PEN, but she also contributes with damage based on her own HP – which increases based on her allies’ Max HPs. Sunday is also a great unit, as is the Remembrance Trailblazer and even Sparkle, as she boosts CRIT DMG, can advance actions, and even replenish Skill Points.

The table below lists a few team comp suggestions for Mydei in Honkai: Star Rail:

Best Team Comps For Mydei In Honkai: Star Rail

Mydei Hypercarry Team

  • Mydei (Destruction - Imaginary)
  • Tribbie (Harmony - Quantum) or Trailblazer (Remembrance - Ice)
  • Sunday (Harmony - Imaginary) or Trailblazer (Remembrance - Ice)
  • Huohuo (Abundance - Wind) or Luocha (Abundance - Imaginary)

Budget-Friendly (F2P) Team Comp

  • Mydei (Destruction - Imaginary)
  • Pela (Nihility - Ice)
  • Trailblazer (Remembrance - Ice)
  • Lynx (Abundance - Quantum) or Gallagher (Abundance - Fire)

Be sure to also bring in a reliable sustain character. A unit like Huohuo is superb at keeping the team comp safe – Huohuo’s high Max HP can also stack with Tribbie’s damage output. Luocha can also work well because of his auto-heal mechanics that see HP restoration through attacks. Even though Mydei has a means of keeping himself alive, it’s best to use a healer to help him through his HP loss since his Charge points toward Vendetta aren’t removed if he is healed (incoming damage that affects his HP also counts toward Charge).

Skill (Trace) Priority For Mydei

Don’t Forget To Level His Talent, Too

Honkai Star Rail's Mydei faces the Flameweaver in the Grove of Epiphany.

When leveling him up after gathering all the necessary Mydei materials in Honkai: Star Rail, your priority should be increasing his Skill and Ultimate levels simultaneously. Both these abilities are vital to his rotation, so they should be at the forefront of your efforts. After that, don’t forget to increase his Talent, which helps him restore HP, thus relieving the pressure from the healer. His last priority should be his Basic Attacks – these aren’t too important, but don’t ignore them altogether, because poor Skill Point management could force you to rely on these.

Overall, Mydei has a pretty straightforward build. His lack of heavy reliance on CRIT Rate makes building him focused on CRIT DMG and HP a lot easier, and his powerful kit makes a great unit for hypercarry teams – as long as the s don’t boost ATK, from which he does not benefit. If you are able to optimize his build and get him to at least 8,000 Max HP (though always aim for more), you will certainly have a strong HP-focused DPS in your Honkai: Star Rail who could easily replace Blade.
