Being able to gather the necessary items to level and ascend Kafka in get Kafka in Honkai: Star Rail starting with Version 1.2 and her limited-time banner’s introduction. Kafka is a 5-star hero that uses Lightning as her main element and follows the Path of the Nihility.
Kafka is considered a main DPS character in a team comp and specializes in dealing increased damage to opponents via DoT (damage over time) attacks, that linger and consistently afflict opponents. She also boosts the power of other DoTs, so she is great when paired up with characters that can inflict Burn or Wind Shear, for instance. Of course, aside from Kafka’s team and build in Honkai: Star Rail, players have to focus on gathering the required materials for Kafka’s ascension and Talent upgrade, so that she is adequately leveled for the challenges that she will be submitted to complete.
Ascension Materials To Farm For Kafka In Honkai: Star Rail
If players have been involved with Honkai: Star Rail since its release, it is likely that they already have a portion of the needed materials for Kafka’s ascensions. Some of the main items that she uses to go beyond level thresholds are Thief’s Instinct, and its two evolved forms, Usurper’s Scheme and Conqueror’s Will, respectively. These items drop from Voidranger: Reavers, Voidranger: Eliminators, Voidranger: Tramplers, Voidranger: Distorter, Stormbringers, Baryons, and Antibaryons. The best locations to farm Thief’s Instinct are Storage Zone and Supply Zone, both inside Herta Space Station. Players can also get these materials from Assignments, the world shop in Herta Space Station, and through the Embers Exchange Store.
Players are encouraged to use the Omni-Synthesizer to transform 3x Thief’s Instinct into 1x Usurper’s Scheme, and 3x Usurper’s Scheme into 1x Conqueror’s Will.
Players should get ready to farm a surplus of Thief’s Instinct and its evolutions, as these items are also used for Kafka’s Traces. The other core material used for Kafka’s ascension in Honkai: Star Rail is Shape Shifter’s Lightning Staff. This item has been available in the game since launch, so players who gathered materials for Jing Yuan in Honkai: Star Rail may have some left. Shape Shifter’s Lightning Staff drops exclusively from the Stagnant Shadow: Shape of Doom on Stargazer Navalia. To obtain all the necessary items, this challenge needs to be faced multiple times. The table below lists all the materials needed for Kafka’s ascension, according to Game8:

Aside from the Thief’s Instinct item family and the Shape Shifter’s Lightning Staff, players will also be required to spend a considerable amount of Credit and EXP materials to ascend and level Kafka to 80 in Honkai: Star Rail. This process should take some time if players do not already have the required resources, so it is best to carefully plan the farming to evenly distribute the usage of Trailblaze Power. Pre-farming for Kafka ahead of her release is a clever move, especially because one of her Trace materials only arrives with Version 1.2. Players have no choice but to start farming it after the update is live.
Materials For Kafka’s Traces (Abilities) In Honkai: Star Rail
As was previously mentioned, some of the necessary items for Kafka’s Traces in Honkai: Star Rail are Thief’s Instinct, Usurper’s Scheme, and Conqueror’s Will. While farming for her ascension, players should also gather more in order to gradually upgrade her Talents. The next item family that players will need to farm is that of the Obsidian of Dread. The base material and its evolutions, Obsidian of Desolation and Obsidian of Obsession, are exclusive to Nihility characters and can be farmed since the game’s release. If players have already leveled heroes such as Welt or Silver Wolf, they may have some leftovers.
The Obsidian of Dread material family can be farmed at the Calyx (Crimson): Bud of Nihility, located in the Great Mine, on Jarilo-VI. Seeing the sheer amount needed for fully upgrading Kafka’s Traces, players will likely have to run the Calyx several times over the course of many days before being able to max out her abilities. Nevertheless, this tends to be a longer process than ascension, as it requires nearly 10x more Credits to do as well. Another material needed for her Traces is Regret of Infinite Ochema. This is the only material that cannot be pre-farmed, as it is related to a boss in Honkai: Star Rail 1.2.
Regret of Infinite Ochema is a material that drops from the weekly Echo of War boss fight against Phantylia, the Undying. This boss is located in the Scalegorge Waterscape map, but can only be unlocked once players win the battle against her in the main story quests in Honkai: Star Rail 1.2. Not many are required to fully upgrade Kafka’s Traces, but these Echo of War fights are limited to three per week, so players may take longer than expected to be able to gather all the Regret of Infinite Ochema. The table below lists all the required materials to max out Kafka’s Traces, according to Game8:

Players will also be required to use a fair share of Tracks of Destiny and what can be an overwhelming amount of Credits to fully upgrade Kafka, but it may be well worth it. The new 5-star character is one of the strongest characters in the game, even if she does not immediately eliminate foes, rather leaving them to take damage to powerful DoTs. Players who get Kafka in Honkai: Star Rail should consider gradually upgrading her while they go after her best build and team comp.
