Hollow Knight: Silksong will finally be playable in September, but only at a museum in Australia. The sequel, which was originally intended to be a DLC, was originally announced in 2019 with a release date of 2023. Once the release window came around, the game was delayed and developer Team Cherry went quiet about its state, leaving many fans wondering whether the game would ever see the light of day.
IGN has revealed that the highly anticipated sequel to Hollow Knight will be on display as a playable exhibit at the Game Worlds exhibit at a Melbourne museum in September 2025. Melbourne's national museum of media, ACMI, will be showing off the game from the Adelaide, South Australia-based studio starting September 18. The exhibit will delve deeper into the making of Silksong and games like it, and include additional displays showing the art and design that went into the title's development.
Hollow Knight: Silksong Will Be Playable For The First Time
You Can Play The Game At The Australian Museum This September
Silksong is currently the most wishlisted game on Steam, making it a great partner for the museum to show off as a culmination of many years of video games. The Game Worlds exhibit at ACMI will showcase 30 iconic video games from throughout the years, like Neopets, World of Warcraft, The Sims, and many more. According to ACMI co-curators Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell, Silksong will serve as the centerpiece of the exhibit.

After Learning Hollow Knight’s Original Plans, Silksong Delays Make Even More Sense
Hollow Knight: Silksong's extended development cycle might be the inevitable conclusion of Team Cherry's approach, for better or worse.
The museum informed IGN that the exhibit will include everything from "the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s different movements and attacks, to the logic behind the game’s most challenging boss fights." A key sprite art sheet for Hornet, the protagonist of the game, was also revealed by IGN, showing the art and detail that goes into even the simplest of movements in the game.
Silksong's Finally Inching Closer To Release
The Game Will Likely Be Released Before September
After more than six years in quiet development, Silksong was cryptic X messages of one of the creators of Hollow Knight, William Pellen, aka Little Bomey. News of the museum exhibition shows fans that the game is really coming out this year, and it may be coming very soon.
It seems likely that Hollow Knight: Silksong will be released on or before September 18, since it will be playable in full at the museum on that date. Team Cherry has stayed very quiet about the game's status and release window, but in light of this reveal, fans can expect to hear some news very soon.
