In anticipation of the movie's South by Southwest Film Festival premiere, Prime Video has unveiled the official Holland trailer. The video opens with Kidman introducing audiences to the idyllic titular town, where she works as a teacher and her husband as the local preacher, and the local aesthetic is that of the same-named country. Things then begin to turn suspenseful when her husband says he has to go on a business trip, leading to her and Bernal's Dave ing together for an investigation, which the footage teases has something to do with the town itself. What The Holland Trailer Reveals About The Movie

It Looks To Continue A Specific Genre Trend

While it certainly doesn't give the entire movie away, the Holland trailer does reveal a surprisingly fair amount of what to expect from the thriller. For starters, it really seems to be pointing to Macfayden's Fred as being some kind of malevolent manipulator, be it his dialogue about creating a story and making it stick, or his seemingly having some kind of control over the titular town. Additionally, the footage indicates Bernal's character may be one of the few male characters in of Nancy's investigation, as he enjoys "good mysteries."

Ultimately, it's the town that looks to be one of the more mysterious elements of the Holland trailer. Beyond Fred's suspicious behavior, a brief snippet of the trailer also shows Kidman's character running away down her town's main street as people suddenly pop into existence, while another shot sees her in a kaleidoscopic-type environment in the sky above the city. Though these scenes could be shown as those of nightmare scenes, it also seems possible there is a sci-fi twist in store for the film.

Whatever the answer may be, what the Holland trailer does make clear is it's continuing a specific thriller trend of female-fronted stories. Ranging from Cave's own cannibal thriller Fresh to Olivia Wilde's Don't Worry Darling and the recently acclaimed Companion, more and more filmmakers are using the genre to create important commentary of various female perspectives. Kidman herself has explored this subgenre on multiple occasions, including her Stepford Wives remake and HBO's Big Little Lies.

Hopefully A Better Version Of A Recent Misfire

Though the actual answers to its mystery may end up being entirely different, it's hard to deny that the Holland trailer is already showing a variety of similarities to the aforementioned Don't Worry Darling, a movie which became an unsurprising misfire for Wilde following its infamous production troubles. However, with Cave having thoroughly impressed me with her debut in Fresh and the movie looking to have some twisty storytelling in store, I hope that its SXSW premiere brings with it positive reviews.
