Developed by Avalanche Software, Hogwarts Legacy will let players enroll at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry during the late 1800s. This period setting means that the game's version of the school will be recognizable yet unique, and players can explore every inch of the school grounds and the surrounding region. Hogwarts Legacy will be a full-blown Harry Potter simulator, with players able to customize their own wizard and choose between the franchise's four houses. Players will be able to use spells for both combat and exploration, and attending Hogwarts classes will improve these magical abilities over time. A Hogwarts Legacy Back to Hogwarts showcase recently showed off more of the game, including each house's common room, and PlayStation State of Play revealed even more new footage today.

A new Hogwarts Legacy trailer, shared to YouTube by PlayStation, reveals a PlayStation-exclusive Shop Quest called Haunted Hogsmeade. The kindly Hogsmeade shopkeeper Madam Mason will offer to sell her store at a generous price, but a spooky secret lies beneath the shop that threatens to spoil the deal. Players must delve underneath the store and face a haunting presence, but doing so will also give them their very own shop to sell items and gear. Haunted Hogsmeade will only be available to Hogwarts Legacy players who experience the Wizarding World adventure on PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5.

Hogwarts Legacy Gets More Magical On PlayStation

While the game will let players act as an innocent Hogwarts student, Dark Arts in Hogwarts Legacy will also let fans go down a more sinister path. Customizing a character means that players can role-play as many types of wizards, from law-abiding paragons to merciless renegades. Avalanche Software has even hinted that players can lean into the Dark Arts during their extracurricular activities, and the taboo Unforgivable Curses may even be available to wield. It's currently unknown what effect these dark decisions will have on the game's story, but Harry Potter fans will find out early next year.

Hogwarts Legacy promises to deliver an authentic Harry Potter experience, and the Haunted Hogsmeade Shop Quest will make the supernatural simulation even more robust. By venturing below Madam Mason's shop and confronting the forces beneath it, players will earn their very own shop in the quaint magical town. Hogwarts Legacy will release on February 10, 2023, and experiencing it on PlayStation will be particularly magical.
