Hogwarts Legacy's dragons shouldn't be attacked, according to Harry Potter fans. On March 30, 2022, the game's official Twitter posted a video revealing the design of dragons in Hogwarts Legacy and asked "Friend or foe - which will these magical beasts be?" Responses came quick.
Brief glimpses of Hogwarts Legacy gameplay footage accompanied the post, including one clip that shows a dragon lying on its side, presumably awaiting a friendly belly rub. Naturally, a number of the page's followers flocked to the replies to confirm that dragons, hippogriffs, and other fantastical creatures will be considered friends when Hogwarts Legacy releases - especially if they're rideable mounts.
Unfortunately, at the moment it does not appear like Hogwarts Legacy's dragons will be rideable - unless the developers are keeping that information under wraps. There are other confirmed mounts in Hogwarts Legacy, however.
Rideable Mounts In Hogwarts Legacy
There are three confirmed mounts for Hogwarts Legacy, and none of them are dragons. Instead, developers have revealed players will be able to ride Hippogriffs, Thestrals, and broomsticks in Hogwarts Legacy. While that doesn't close the door on a dragon mount being revealed later on in the game's story, it likely won't be something players will be able to use at will if it does exist at all.
Only those who purchase the Hogwarts Legacy Collector's Edition or Hogwarts Legacy Deluxe Edition will have access to Thestral mounts. This is a curious choice, since in the Harry Potter books and movies Thestrals can only be seen by people who have witnessed death, not people with more money to spend on entertainment than others.
All players will be able to fly on Hippogriffs in Hogwarts Legacy regardless of the version purchased, and broom flying and customization with be available to everyone as well. Judging from the many gameplay trailers released leading up to the game's launch, it definitely seems like Hogwarts and its surrounding areas will be filled with plenty of magical creatures to interact with. Developers have also shared some silly creature videos, such as a glitch which makes one of Hogwarts Legacy's centaurs fly through the air and wiggle wildly.
Locking Thestrals behind a specific paywall is disappointing, but if players do get to befriend a dragon in Hogwarts Legacy and ride it over the castle grounds then it would surely please many long-time and new Harry Potter book readers. There are only a few days left until Hogwarts Legacy comes out, but as of right now Hippogriffs, brooms, and purchasable Thestrals are all the known mounts available.
