Idris Elba is brandishing a flamethrower in a new photo from the Hobbs & ShawA new addition to the Fast & Furious franchise, Elba will be playing the spinoff's main villain known only as Brixton.

In Hobbs & Shaw, two Fast & Furious characters, Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw (played by Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, respectively), are reunited and have no other choice but to work side-by-side for the greater good. In the Fast & Furious films, Hobbs and Shaw worked on opposing sides of the law, which naturally put them at odds with each other. In their spinoff film, however, they have no choice but to team up - not only to prevent a cyber-enhanced anarchist named Brixton (Elba), but to save Shaw's MI6 agent sister. The first trailer for the film proved exactly how powerful Elba's character is, and a new photo from the film shows off the wide range of weaponry he'll be equipped with in the new film.

One of Hobbs & Shaw's producers, Hiram Garcia, who has produced everything from Shazam!, posted a photo from the film on his Twitter page. In the photo, Brixton is shooting flames out of a massive flamethrower. Standing in front of a wall of weapons, he's clearly picked out his weapon of choice from the large selection. The film will be an exciting pitstop for fans of the Fast & Furious franchise, but a fifth Fast and Furious film has already been greenlit; as has a female-led spinoff, though its release date is currently TBA.

From what the trailers have shown, it almost seems as though Elba's character doesn't even require a weapon, as he's basically a weapon himself. The Fast & Furious franchise has grown progressively off-the-wall with its action, and this spinoff has fully embraced the fact that it's no longer worried about staying grounded. The franchise promises unparalleled action, but its characters may as well now be on the same playing field as any character in a modern superhero movie - which likely wasn't done by accident; especially in Hobbs & Shaw's case.
