  • Despite ongoing server capacity issues, the Arrowhead team is working hard to ensure players have an optimal gaming experience.

Helldivers 2 has been largely praised since its launch, with the sequel to the 2015 co-op shooter also attracting far more players than its predecessor. However, there is still one key area that's holding the game back as a whole, and it's partly caused by this unexpected popularity.

There have been many complaints of server issues since Helldivers 2's launch, with many Steam players giving the game a "Not recommended" rating on the platform as a result. This has led to Arrowhead's CEO Johan Pilestedt telling a fan on X who claimed they had no money to "get it later", stating that it's "worth waiting until the servers can the capacity."

Bad reviews for Helldivers 2 are pouring in, but there may be a perfectly good reason. Here’s everything to know about the Helldivers controversy.

Arrowhead Is Working On Helldivers 2's Server Capacity

Helldivers 2 Is PlayStation's Biggest Steam Launch

Helldivers 2 has a peak concurrent player count of almost 300,000 on Steam in the weeks after its launch, which increases further when combined with the PlayStation players who sessions via crossplay. However, the first Helldivers only had a peak concurrent player count on Steam of about 7,000 players. Therefore, it's highly likely that Arrowhead underestimated the sheer number of players it would be hosting on its servers.

Helldivers 2 is now Playstation's biggest Steam launch, overtaking God of War, which previously held the record with 73,529 simultaneous s.

The official new patch addressed some technical issues, a statement informed players that the game was still facing capacity issues despite attempts to increase server capacity, and reassured them that the team hopes to have a fix in place as soon as possible.

Hopefully, these issues will be resolved soon, and players will be able to enjoy a more optimal Helldivers 2 experience across both PC and PlayStation. In the meantime, it's clear that Pilestedt and Arrowhead care about the players and want to ensure that they don't have a poor experience with the game, and it's refreshing to hear a CEO of a company being so candid about issues that their product is facing and advising potential buyers accordingly rather than simply chasing more profit.
