Summary

  • Ninja Theory has just released Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 to generally positive reviews.
  • The team is already working on a new project, potentially another Xbox exclusive.
  • Another title, Project Mara, aims to create a groundbreaking gaming experience centered on mental terror.

Ninja Theory has just dropped Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, one of the most important exclusives for the Xbox brand in 2024. However, while its release is important to the dev team, they are already looking forward to a set of new projects, one of which has recently been greenlit by Microsoft.

The news comes fresh off a post by Ninja Theory on X (formerly Twitter), where studio head Dom Matthews talked about the development of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 and how the game was meant to be a special title. Windows Central then noted that the team had another project greenlit.

Matthews further commented that “making video games is difficult” and that the Ninja Theory team wanted gamers to not just enjoy Senua’s next tale but also have them “thinking and feeling” by the time they were done. He’s also grateful to fans who are eager to try the game.

More Titles Coming From Ninja Theory

The first title that Ninja Theory is known to be developing is Project Mara. The game was announced back in 2020 and, according to the team at the time, is meant to be a “grounded” game routed in the concept of “mental terror.” The team aims to take the real-life s of people who have gone through various terrors and recreate them in the gaming space. They’re so confident in what they’re making that they feel this “experimental” title will become a new storytelling medium.

As for the newly greenlit game, it’s unclear what project is being referenced. It’s possible that it could be another new IP like Project Mara, or it could be a potential continuation of Senua’s story. However, because Ninja Theory is under the banner of Microsoft, it is fair to say that this newly announced title will be an Xbox exclusive, just like Hellblade 2 is.

One of the elements that Ninja Theory focused on in both of Senua’s stories were the visuals and audio experiences that the protagonist perceives. Recent interviews with the team revealed that the sound design has been improved even further so that audio truly travels within the game world to build a unique tension within it. Furthermore, the game’s visuals were, at times, directly taken from things the team saw in Iceland. Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II will also be a day one title on Xbox Game , bringing more eyes onto the Microsoft subscription service.
