Although one world is a world of vampires and the other is a world of witchcraft and wizardry, it's safe to say that the fictional universes of Harry Potter have more similarities than differences. And one thing that these universes undeniably share in common is that they are chock-full of characters who find themselves thrust into a dangerous supernatural world that they can't control and don't always understand.

But if the characters of TVD and HP actually came face to face, what would their relationships be like? Who would make great couples, and which duos would be destined for a breakup?

Would Work: Jeremy & Cho

Jeremy Gilbert Cho Chang Harry Potter Vampire Diaries

Jeremy Gilbert and Cho Chang occupy similar spaces within their respective franchises. Although they're often pushed to the side, they actually have a lot to offer.

Jeremy was initially cast off as nothing more than Elena's kid brother, but not only did he handle his introduction into the vamp world well, he actually had a lot of hidden talent. And the same goes for Cho, while she was never close to being a member of the core Golden Trio, she was a certified badass.

Wouldn't Work: Matt & Luna

Luna Lovegood Matt Donovan Harry Potter Vampire Diaries

Matt Donovan is a genuinely good person who adjusted fairly well to the supernatural world he was abruptly thrown into, all things considered. However, it's obvious that if he had the choice, he would live a perfectly normal human life.

Luna Lovegood clearly occupies the opposite end of the spectrum. Not only is she an incredibly talented witch, but she loves all things strange and supernatural, so she and Matt's personality types certainly wouldn't blend well.

Would Work: Tyler & Ginny

Tyler Lockwood Ginny Weasley Vampire Diaries Harry Potter

When Tyler Lockwood transformed into a werewolf, his entire personality transformed too. He may not have ever been the chosen one like Harry Potter, but when Tyler was confronted with harsh choices and moral quandaries, he really stepped up to the plate.

And while the Harry Potter films didn't really do Ginny Weasley justice, she seems like just the kind of girl who would pair up with Tyler well. She's tough, independent, and has her own life, but she's a ride-or-die for her boyfriend and isn't afraid of danger.

Wouldn't Work: Katherine & Voldemort

Katherine Pierce Voldemort Vampire Diaries Harry Potter

Katherine Pierce and Lord Voldemort are characters that seem like they'd be drawn towards one another if they occupied the same fictional universe, but any relationship between them could never last.

Katherine would of course be using Voldy for her own ends would undoubtedly put him off, and Katherine wouldn't want to stick around anyone who was more powerful than she was for too long.

Would Work: Bonnie & Ron

Ron Weasley Bonnie Bennett Harry Potter Vampire Diaries

Despite the fact that Bonnie and Ron are fairly underappreciated in their respective friend groups, they actually have an enormous amount to offer, and they would likely feel that they were kindred spirits if they ever met.

Both Bonnie and Ron are genuinely good people too, and considering that Bonnie has suffered enormously since she discovered the world of magic, it would be great for her to couple up with someone as lighthearted and kind as Ron.

Wouldn't Work: Klaus & Snape

Severus Snape Klaus Mikaelson Harry Potter Vampire Diaries

Klaus Mikaelson and Severus Snape actually have a ton in common on the surface. They're both the products of abusive childhoods, they are both drawn to the dark side, but there is an aspect of their inner selves that is decent and can't easily be snuffed out.

But with that said, they both tend to languish in self-pity and almost seem to thrive on the idea that no one can understand them, so they wouldn't work as a pair.

Would Work: Caroline & Hermione

Hermione Granger Caroline Forbes Harry Potter Vampire Diaries

One character duo who are astonishingly similar but would actually be able to work it out is Hermione and Caroline. Miss Granger and Miss Forbes both occupy similar roles within the group, they're super high achievers whose type-A personalities can rub a lot of people the wrong way, but ultimately they can always be relied on to get the job done.

But Hermione and Caroline would both understand why the other is so high-strung, and they would actually appreciate all of each other's wonderful qualities without judging each other for their more irritating traits.

Wouldn't Work: Elena & Harry

Elena Gilbert Harry Potter Vampire Diaries

On the surface, Harry and Elena both share some common ground. They're both chosen ones who are willing to sacrifice themselves for the greater good, and they both have a group of ride-or-die friends that never fail to help them.

However, Elena is a bit more of a downer than Harry is, as Harry experiences innumerable losses but doesn't let that completely alter or destroy him as a person.

Would Work: Stefan & Tonks

Stefan Salvatore Nymphadora Tonks Vampire Diaries Harry Potter

Sometimes people with drastically different personalities would never work as a couple, but sometimes opposites attract. Stefan is pretty much a professional moper, but someone who is as fun and strong-willed as Nymphadora Tonks might actually bring out the long-buried fun side of Stefan Salvatore.

Stefan also seems to be a little obsessed with playing the hero to a damsel in distress, and as Tonks is anything but that, they could actually have a relationship where both partners are on an even playing field.

Wouldn't Work: Damon & Bellatrix

Bellatrix Lestrange Damon Salvatore Harry Potter Vampire Diaries

Bellatrix and Damon share some surface similarities. One is a maniacal, unpredictable witch, and the other is a maniacal, unpredictable vampire. But beneath that surface connection, Bella and Damon couldn't be more different.

If anything, Bellatrix is the most gleefully cruel and violent person in the entire Harry Potter series, while Damon ultimately beats himself up over every mistake he ever makes. They're opposites in every way that counts.
