Daisy Ridley grew up as a the Star Wars sequel trilogy, and she is currently preparing to reprise her role in an follow-up movie. She has also starred in a variety of smaller films, including Young Woman and the Sea (2024), Sometimes I Think About Dying (2023), and Peter Rabbit (2018). With the Harry Potter casting process ongoing, there has been some speculation that Ridley could attach herself to the project.
Despite the rumors, Ridley has no interest in ing Harry Potter. ScreenRant was present at a Q&A at Collider's screening of her new movie, Cleaner, where Ridley shot down the very thought. Though she loves the franchise, she has no interest in taking over the roles of other actors, and she does not have the time to spend with the franchise. She also recognizes the pressure that will hang over the production and is not especially interested in bearing it. Check out her quote below:
I haven’t asked to be a part of it because, honestly, I am so… Those performances are so phenomenal that I feel it would be so terrifying to take on one of those roles. Just, I mean… a huge commitment of time, but really it’s just, I just love the films. I love the performances. And I’m really looking forward to seeing what they do with them, because they will clearly be so different. But, oh my God, the pressure would be so high.
What Ridley's Refusal Means For Harry Potter
This Is A 10-Year Commitment
Ridley is an extremely prominent actor, who still regularly appears in a variety of productions. She has an Star Wars movie on the horizon, as well as other voice acting and live-action obligations for the franchise. Attaching herself to another high-profile role would be extremely challenging, especially since it is meant to be a 10-year commitment. If Ridley was involved, there would need to be several production pauses to allow her to manage her twin obligations. It could easily be too much for the actor.
Ridley simply does not need to sign on for such an extensive obligation.
Besides, Ridley has already experienced overwhelming pressure from her Star Wars work. If she believes that the Harry Potter show will be overwhelming, there is good reason to believe her. She would know better than anyone how she would handle that pressure. There are numerous other Hollywood stars who need the opportunity to improve their profile through the show. Ridley simply does not need to sign on for such an extensive obligation when she is already an integral part of an ongoing franchise.
Our Take On Ridley's Refusal To Harry Potter
This Is What's Best For Harry Potter & Ridley
This will likely be the right move for both parties. HBO is looking for actors who will be willing to commit to a decade of filming, and Ridley simply does not have the time. Though she has expressed her love for the franchise, she is making the right decision by stepping away completely. Ridley can focus on projects that will not involve attempting to live up to legendary prior performances. Instead, she can settle in for indie movies, new Star Wars releases, and anything else that strikes her. Harry Potter may not have Ridley, but that is a good thing.

Harry Potter is HBO's remake of the iconic Wizarding World film series that consisted of eight films between 2001 and 2011. Each season adapts a book from JK Rowling's popular series and provides more book-accurate details than the movies did.
