The Vampire Diaries are both stories that focus on many characters who either occupy a supernatural world or who suddenly find themselves thrust into a supernatural world, and each individual character navigates the life-and-death intensity of their experiences in different ways.

The extreme experiences that each character goes through really offers insight into their personalities too. But if the universes of Harry Potter and The Vampire Diaries collided, how would the characters interact with one another? More specifically, who would make really good friends, and who would likely wind up not getting along or becoming straight up enemies?

Would Work: Katherine & Narcissa

Katherine Pierce Narcissa Malfoy Vampire Diaries Harry Potter

Both Katherine and Narcissa are the type of people who don't really have true friendships, as they can't help but look for an angle to work or advantage that they can find with any relationship that they have.

But that might actually make the two of them good friends for each other, as they are some of the few people who understand that getting along and enjoying each other's company is lovely, but ultimately everyone needs to look out for themselves.

Turn Ugly: Elijah & Lucius

Lucius Malfoy Elijah Mikaelson Harry Potter Vampire Diaries

On the surface, it seems like Lucius Malfoy and Elijah Mikaelson would have a lot in common. They're quite refined and have an old-world vibe, and they seem to be the natural leaders of their ancient magical family.

However, they really only share surface similarities. Ultimately Lucius is an arrogant bully who embraces the dark history of the Malfoy name, and on the other hand, Elijah is obsessed with redeeming his family to the point where he can't help but play the martyr.

Would Work: Caroline & Harry

Caroline Forbes Vampire Diaries Harry Potter

Harry Potter may be the boy who lived and the chosen one to defeat Voldemort, but let's be real. If he didn't have a type-A taskmaster like Hermione Granger on his side, he probably would have been dead long before his final confrontation with the Dark Lord.

That's exactly why someone like Caroline would be a perfect bestie for him as well, she is exactly the kind of person he needs in his corner.

Turn Ugly: Tyler & Draco

Tyler Lockwood Draco Malfoy Vampire Diaries Harry Potter

Tyler Lockwood and Draco Malfoy have a lot of surface similarities, and if they both attended Hogwarts or Mystic Falls High together, they likely would have been the best of frenemies.

However, when their mettle is really tested, Tyler and Draco react in completely differing ways. Tyler became a better person through trials and tribulations, while Draco completely falls apart. Whatever friendship they had couldn't last for very long.

Would Work: Damon & Snape

Severus Snape Damon Salvatore Harry Potter Vampire Diaries

On the flip side, characters like Severus Snape and Damon Salvatore have a lot of surface similarities as well, and when they are truly challenged, they both seemingly react in the same way.

Snape and Damon were never looking to be heroes, and they don't handle a lot of things very well. But when someone they love is hurt by their actions, they will spend their entire lives trying to make up for that mistake.

Turn Ugly: Elena & Hermione

Elena Gilbert Hermione Granger Vampire Diaries Harry Potter

Hermione Granger is a complete control freak and obviously the boss of the Golden Trio, and Elena Gilbert has a bit of a god complex and thinks that her judgment should supersede everyone else's. Thus, it should be obvious why Hermione and Elena would never get along.

Not only would they be constantly fighting for dominance, but Hermione's take-charge, get-it-done attitude wouldn't mesh well with Elena's tendency to fall apart when things go sideways.

Would Work: Hermione & Klaus

Hermione Granger Klaus Mikaelson Harry Potter Vampire Diaries

Klaus Mikaelson is always impressed by those with power and by those with intelligence and motivation, and Hermione clearly has all three. And although Klaus is supposed to be the biggest baddie of all time, he really needs someone to whip him into shape and tell him what's what.

Klaus would have a lot of iration for Hermione, but that wouldn't go both ways unless Klaus changed, which would actually enable them to have a somewhat equal friendship instead of the servants that Klaus always expects.

Turn Ugly: Stefan & Ron

Stefan Salvatore Ron Weasley Vampire Diaries Harry Potter

Stefan is pensive, tormented, and downright miserable most of the time, while Ron Weasley is jovial, fun, and quick to resolve any problems that he runs into.

It's not that Stefan and Ron would necessarily dislike each other either, it's just that they share no common ground and wouldn't be able to enjoy each other or have fun together at all.

Would Work: Dumbledore & Bonnie

Albus Dumbledore Bonnie Bennett Harry Potter Vampire Diaries

While Dumbledore might play more of the mentorship role than that of an actual friend, it seems like he and Bonnie Bennett could create a really great relationship with each other.

Dumbledore actually knows what it's like to grow up as the most powerful magic- in the world, and he understands the difficult choices that need to be made, so he could really offer a lot to Bonnie.

Turn Ugly: Damon & Voldemort

Voldemort Damon Salvatore Harry Potter Vampire Diaries

It's interesting, because from the start of Harry Potter and The Vampire Diaries, Damon Salvatore were the villains.

But as both stories evolved, their roles in said stories changed completely. Voldemort only became more evil, while Damon edged closer and closer to redemption. They may have found some common ground in the beginning, but these two would never be real friends.
