First images and footage for The Handmaid's Tale season 6 will bring an end to the dystopian TV show, with many characters' lives hanging in the balance as the series hurtles toward its grand finale. The final season will see the ensemble cast of characters trying to survive after Gilead's teachings begin to gain traction in Canada. Others still in the former United States will be trying to escape whatever fates the tyrannical government might have in store.
Now, The Handmaid's Tale and Hulu have released images from season 6 on Instagram, teasing what's to come for the series ahead of its premiere next year. The images show June (Elisabeth Moss), Moira (Samira Wiley), Serena (Yvonne Strahovski), Luke (O-T Fagbenle), Nick (Max Minghella), and Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) in various scenarios, teasing the tension of the episodes. A statement from Moss accompanying the images also reveals she directed episodes 1 and 2, while David Lester directed episode 3. All were shot by cinematographer Nicola Daley. New footage of the final season was also revealed by Disney+ in a Coming in 2025 video. The short clip starts at 1:35, and sees Serena and June seemingly working together to bring all of their allies in Gilead out of the country, potentially setting the stage for what's to come. Everyone Will Have An Important Part To Play
The Handmaid's Tale season 5 ended with June and Serena happening to board the same train together, with the former holding her baby in the new image, teasing a potential alliance between longtime enemies. However, while the pair are seeking a form of shelter from Gilead, Nick is trapped inside, believed to be a traitor as he continues trying to get back to the protagonist. At the same time, Luke is dealing with issues of his own, with Moira seemingly assisting him following his arrest after killing a Canadian citizen trying to attack his wife.

With The Handmaid's Tale ending with season 6, there are some important things the showrunners must do to end the series on a high note.

This sets the stage for the adaptation of The Testaments, an official sequel by Margaret Atwood which sees her become an even more prominent character because of her future actions. These images reveal how the storylines established in season 5 are going to continue, while also teasing a massive finale as everyone tries to escape the clutches of the authoritarian nation.

However, with some characters like Aunt Lydia being crucial to The Testaments, the final season will have to be both a grand ending of the show, alongside a lead-in to what's next for the sequel's adaptation. Since June and Serena working together seems like a major plot point this time around, their newfound allyship could be the start of how everything finally falls into place.
