We also explored Universal Orlando's Halloween Horror Nights 33
See our ranking of the 10 haunted houses from HHN 33 here!
Universal Studios Hollywood offers thrill-seeking guests something exciting and new every Halloween season with Halloween Horror Nights. Not only will you find creepy characters, some wielding chainsaws, running around the streets, but there are haunted house mazes to experience throughout the park. These mazes are the biggest draw, building lore behind Universal-owned characters while also exploring some of the most popular horror franchises.
Halloween Horror Nights 2024 features eight terrifying haunted houses: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Legacy of Leatherface, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, Insidious: The Further, The Weeknd: Nightmare Trilogy, Universal Monsters: Eternal Bloodlines, A Quiet Place haunted houses. While they are all filled with incredible visuals and creatures lurking around dark corners, some are better than others. Here are all eight of the new haunted houses featured at Halloween Horror Nights Hollywood 2024, ranked.

Halloween Horror Nights 2024 Themed Foods & Drinks: Full List
Universal Studios Hollywood's Halloween Horror Nights 2024 is offering up a maniacal menu of devilish bites themed to Chucky, Ghostbusters, and more.
8 Universal Monsters: Eternal Bloodlines
An Incomplete Storyline Puts This At The Bottom
Even though Universal Monsters: Eternal Bloodlines is considered the weakest of the 2024 haunted house mazes, it is still a very cool experience. As guests walk through, they are shown the story of Van Helsing's daughter, Saskia Van Helsing, as she teams up with the Bride of Frankenstein to take down Dracula's daughter. Each hallway has a voiceover explaining the next part of the tale, but with all the screaming and sound effects, it can be a little difficult to understand.
There are some great visuals when it comes to the scenes that play out in front of guests, however, it does not seem like the story is complete at the end. Without spoilers, there is a set-up for something with no real payoff. Seeing a house featuring all women is empowering and exciting, though.
7 Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
It's Weirdly Hot For A Frozen Storyline
It should come as no surprise that the Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire maze essentially regurgitates the key events of the film by the same name. Starting off in Ray's Occult Books store and working its way through the plot, there are a lot of things that Ghostbusters fans will absolutely love seeing. This maze has a lot of Easter eggs and references to the franchise - of course, Slimer makes an appearance as well.
Other haunted houses pump in air conditioning, so it is surprising this is not a part of the Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire experience.
This haunted house is more cutesy and fun than scary. Even the ghosts hiding around dark corners are more silly than terrifying. Something that is beyond Universal's control, but should be mentioned, is that on a hot night, guests are completely taken out of the "frozen" part of this walk-through. Rooms feature ice and frozen characters, but it is sweltering hot walking through the maze. Other haunted houses pump in air conditioning, so it is surprising this is not a part of the Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire experience.
6 Monstruos 2: The Nightmares of Latin America
The Popular Maze Is Back For A Second Year
Coming hot off the heels of the wildly successful Monstrous haunted house from 2023, Universal Studios Hollywood brings three new monsters to light in Monstruos 2: The Nightmares of Latin America - the soul-stealing rider, El Charro; the supernatural, doglike spirit El Cadejo, who roams quiet roads at night in search of prey; and the child-eating horror movie staple, the boogeyman, El Cucuy. The maze is split up into three distinct sections, each one prominently featuring one of these mythical monsters.
This haunted house includes a lot of really great visuals and unique scares, especially when it comes to the El Cucuy section. Not only is the creature design impressive, there are a lot of actors popping out in unexpected places. That said, the El Cadejo scares, which are in the middle section of the maze, do get repetitive. They get less and less scary as a puppet dog pops out at you as you go around the corner multiple times.
5 A Quiet Place
The Animatronic Puppets Make The Maze
The A Quiet Place maze details the events of the first two films of the franchise, complete with actors in the maze that greatly resemble the actors from the movies, fully immersing guests in this world. You are urged to remain silent so as to not draw the attention of the creatures, which are designed to look exactly like the ones in the films. The louder you are, the more the scare actors punish you.
The sets themselves inside the A Quiet Place haunted house are impressive. You will truly feel as if you are stepping onto the set of the movies. This house is not necessarily reliant on jump scares, but there are a few to be found. The animatronic creatures are wonderfully done, which is what makes this maze a memorable one.
4 Insidious: The Further
The Longest Walk-Through Wins Points For Originality
Insidious: The Further is being called the most terrifying house of 2024 by many guests. As you explore this house, demons seem to lurk around every corner as they lead you deeper and deeper into the house. Easily the longest walk-through of them all, every time you think your nightmare is over, you realize it is not.
The maze itself is filled with twists and turns, creating a lot of dark corners that are almost never empty. One of the best effects of the entire Halloween Horror Nights 2024 is inside this haunted house - a hallway that is lined with windows where all that separates you and the demons is a bit of glass. Perhaps the biggest issue with this maze is allowing other guests to hype it up so much so, that just cannot meet those expectations.
3 Dead Exposure: Death Valley
Easily The Most Complete Storyline Of The Mazes
For guests who enjoy a good zombie story, Dead Exposure: Death Valley is for you. Enter a top-secret government facility where their experiments have gone horribly wrong. This maze is not just about the scares - although there are plenty of them - but it tells an interesting story about how these radioactive zombies came to be.
Easily the best actual storyline to unfold throughout a Halloween Horror Nights 2024 maze, Dead Exposure: Death Valley is both startling and fun.
Props and sets are impressive in this house, as are the looks of the zombies. Easily the best actual storyline to unfold throughout a Halloween Horror Nights 2024 maze, Dead Exposure: Death Valley is both startling and fun. It is easy to become invested in the how and why of the start of the zombie outbreak, keeping things interesting as you walk through it.
2 The Weeknd: Nightmare Trilogy
The Music Makes The Maze
The Weeknd returns with an all-new maze this year, The Weeknd: Nightmare Trilogy. Even those who are not a fan of his music can appreciate all the hard work that has gone into this haunted house. For those who are fans, many iconic moments from his music videos and live performances are referenced throughout.
With a toe-tapping soundtrack, it is hard not to lose yourself in this one. There is no doubt about it, The Weeknd: Nightmare Trilogy features the coolest, most unique, and most exciting visuals of the 2024 haunted houses. Never knowing what to expect as you enter a room, you might meet a friendly dancer, or a murderous creature. This maze is also the most fun to experience, fan of The Weeknd or not.
1 The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Legacy of Leatherface
This One Isn't For The Easily Scared Or Grossed-Out
Everyone knows who Leatherface is, even if you are not a fan of horror films. He has made chainsaws terrifying, and now, in this maze, guests get to meet his family as well. Set in a gore-filled slaughterhouse, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Legacy of Leatherface honors the fiftieth anniversary of the iconic film.
Universal does such a good job with this haunted house that certain scenes may be a bit too much for some guests. This is certainly the bloodiest, and most gory, maze of them all, as you are forced to walk through hanging "human flesh". There are several jump scares, incredibly costumed characters, and even some chilling moments.
Halloween Horror Nights 2024 at Universal Studios Hollywood runs on select nights from September 5th to November 3rd.
Tickets can be purchased here, as it is ticketed separately from general ission to the park.
