Halloween was a success upon its release, scoring generally positive reviews from critics and grossing over $255.4 million worldwide. Two sequels were planned soon after: Halloween Kills and her daughter Karen (Judy Greer), and her granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) escaping Michael's clutches. Despite the women seemingly getting the upper hand over Michael, he still lives on.
Producer Jason Blum recently discussed Halloween Kills with EW and gave an update for where the film currently stands. Many are eagerly awaiting a trailer, and Blum did confirm "we’re trying to get that trailer out." He didn't give any further time frame. He also said they hope to actually release Halloween Kills "before the end of the year. That’s our hope, dream, and plan. We’ll see."
The coronavirus pandemic has postponed countless 2020 movies, including a few previously scheduled for the fall. A majority of movie theaters are hoping to reopen by July, and provided the situation doesn't worsen, they should remain that way into October. This would allow Halloween Kills to come out on time. Still, at this point it's hard to say exactly what will happen. Odds are, a decision won't be made until closer to Halloween Kills' release date.
The current plan right now is to keep Halloween Kills on track for October. Should it retain this date, audiences can probably expect a trailer sometime this summer, possibly timed for when movie theaters reopen. Fans have already gotten a glimpse at some Halloween Kills, but that arrived last October. It's about time something new is released, possibly one that shows the returns of characters like Tommy Doyle (Anthony Michael Hall) and Lindsay Wallace (Kyle Richards). Hopefully the wait won't go on much longer.
