Avengers: Endgame.

The issue first came to light while Paltrow was on Iron Man director Jon Favreau's Netflix series, The Chef Show, where it was revealed that she was unaware that she had a cameo in Homecoming. The actress thought that it was for an Avengers movie, which obviously wasn't the case. On the heels of that, Sebastian Stan, who plays Bucky Barnes in the MCU, claimed that Paltrow keeps on forgetting that they were already introduced a couple of times, having been in the same franchise and running the same social circles.

Paltrow explained why these instances happened in a recent interview with The Politician. The actress chalks it up to the overlapping production for these MCU movies, and she its she's having a hard time keeping track. It doesn't help that she has only watched a few of the 23-film catalog that now makes up the universe. “I never read stuff. But it is confusing because there are so many Marvel movies, and to be honest, I haven’t seen very many of them. It’s really stupid and I’m sorry, but I’m a 47-year-old mother,” she said.

Frankly, Paltrow's excuse makes sense. For someone who's only been featured sporadically in the last few years of the MCU, people can't expect her to keep track and watch every single movie that comes out from the franchise. In addition to that, principal photography for these projects tend to overlap with each other, so if one actor stars in both, it's not easy to which one they're shooting for, especially if it's for a brief cameo only. Scheduling was more chaotic with Infinity War and Endgame, which not only shot back-to-back, but sometimes simultaneously with each other, so that other actors also itted that they didn't what film they were working on during some days. It certainly didn't help that no full scripts were handed out.

With the way things ended in Endgame, it's unclear if fans will ever see Paltrow as Potts again. Spider-Man: Far From Home established her existence as she continues to manage Stark Industries, but as the franchise move to Phase 4 with new characters, it might be a while before she makes her Marvel return - if at all. Perhaps once Morgan Stark's all grown up and potentially going to take-over the mantle that her father left, Paltrow can return to play Ms. Potts once again.
