In addition to outlining its Spring 2022 Roap for Guild Wars 2, developer ArenaNet announced plans for a fourth game expansion and new map based in the Cantha region. Such a reveal comes at the perfect time for the MMORPG, given that Guild Wars 2 has managed to double its player-base in the last couple of years.

The online game's renewed success is no doubt thanks to ongoing from ArenaNet, with Guild Wars 2's End of Dragons expansion serving as the most recent example. Things weren't always looking up for the title or its creator, however. In 2019, ArenaNet laid off a significant number of workers amid a sharp decline in studio revenue. End of Dragons' launch this past February was, thus, considered the last saving grace for the Guild Wars sequel. Fortunately, it appears as though the multiplayer experience will live on for a while longer because of the expansion. It should come as no surprise, then, that the development crew has even bigger plans in place for the fantastical world of Tyria.

Upon confirming details about the Spring 2022 Roap and beyond, ArenaNet teased it has a fourth expansion in the works for Guild Wars 2. Because this new content remains in the embryonic stages of production, though, the team can't divulge anything as of yet. Players shouldn't expect to hear any concrete details about the expansion anytime soon, either. There's still much to look forward to between now and then, evidenced by ArenaNet's announcement of another story update that will introduce a new map set in Cantha and a tale capable of venturing in myriad directions following the Elder Dragon arc. Plus, the Spring 2022 Roap hints at a host of additions that s will want to explore, including the return of Living World Season 1. The roap features below:

Guild Wars 2 Spring 2022 Roap

According to ArenaNet, Guild Wars 2 has grown so much in the last two years that End of Dragons even outsold Path of Fire, the second expansion pack which launched in September 2017. This spells good news for the once beleaguered Guild Wars 2 that looked like it was hanging on by a thread as of late 2020.

Guild Wars 2 first came online in the summer of 2012. The MMORPG migrated to a free-to-play model a few years later, then received its first expansion pack in the form of Heart of Thorns in October 2015. Two other expansions have followed in the several years since then - 2017's Path of Fire and the recently released End of Dragons. With a fourth expansion now on the way, it's clear ArenaNet has high hopes for Guild Wars 2's future.
