this summer’s Thor: Love and Thunder. Gunn has kept many things about his third Guardians film under wraps so far, but has been keen to praise his new talent, with Midsommar’s Will Poulter and Peacemaker’s Chukwudi Iwuji among the new stars ing the MCU flick.
News broke earlier this week that rising star Bakalova had been cast in the superhero sci-fi, playing a yet-unnamed role in the Marvel epic. Bakalova was the breakout star of 2020’s Borat Subsequent Moviefilm. The Bulgarian-born 26-year old was Oscar-nominated for her role in the outrageous hidden-camera comedy sequel, praised by critics and audiences alike for her scene-stealing debut. Since her awards season buzz, Bakalova has been snapped up for recent Netflix comedy The Bubble, and now finds herself ing the biggest franchise in cinema with a part in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Following news of her casting breaking on Twitter, Bakalova issues her own reaction via Twitter. The actor calls the experience a “roller coaster of my emotions” and thanks director Gunn for the “biggest honor.” She goes on a tirade of praise for “everyone involved” in the movie, before g off with “I am Groot,” quoting one of the trilogy’s most recognizable characters. As Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 grows ever closer, the cast of the superhero flick gets bigger and bigger. Last week, it was confirmed that Gunn’s The Suicide Squad star Daniela Melchior was also part of the new movie, with fans wondering if she may play the cosmic Moondragon (which the director promptly debunked). Fellow star Poulter, who is playing long-awaited super-being Adam Warlock, has also itted recently that he didn’t know what he was auditioning for when he went to the casting process for the secretive sequel.
GotG 3 is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated movies of 2023. With Gunn’s drip-feed approach to teasing fans online, paired with the fact that very little is known about the actual plot, the sci-fi threequel has become a major talking point of the MCU Phase 4 movies yet to release. Bakalova adds to what is becoming a sizable ensemble cast of talent, proving that the MCU is the place to be for up-and-coming Hollywood actors. What role she ends up playing in the movie remains to be seen, but Bakalova is certainly eager for fans to see her work as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 gets closer to release.
