Although quite subtle, Gamora’s new look suggests what Star-Lord’s primary obstacle in Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) grew closer as they later became the Guardians of the Galaxy. While Gamora first found Peter insufferable, the two eventually started out a personal relationship — one that may prove difficult to navigate in the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, especially as the events of Avengers: Endgame introduced an alternate version of the female assassin.

Throughout the Infinity Saga, Gamora’s adoptive father Thanos (Josh Brolin) was on a quest to collect the Infinity Stones. His journey forced him to sacrifice his daughter in order to acquire the Soul Stone in Vormir. However, when 2014 Gamora decided to interfere with Thanos’ plan, she ed the time heist and jumped into Endgame’s present timeline. Following Tony Stark’s foreshadowed death, Gamora disappeared, while Peter searched for her.

Recently, as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 continued filming, Zoe Saldana shared pictures of her wearing Gamora, who might be Adam Warlock’s love interest in the next film, has no knowledge of her future self’s time as a Guardian or even her romantic relationship, she certainly will not budge, no matter what Star-Lord attempts, if and when he even locates her.

Furthermore, the inclusion of yellow eyeshadow might hint at Gamora’s current emotional state. Despite her self-chosen isolation, still she is happy and free. After all, upon breaking away from Thanos and his murderous pursuit of the stones, Gamora might be taking her time to build a new life, filled with optimism and hope for what is to come. Granted, she remains the deadliest woman in the universe, so perhaps not everything in her life has drastically changed. But, still, Gamora’s fresh attitude adds to Star-Lord’s challenge of making her see him at all.

While not much has been revealed about the story of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, it has been confirmed that the film’s event will take place after 2023, the last MCU appearance of the team. Sadly, as director James Gunn has repeatedly shared, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will also mark the last time the original group will be together, with its main characters either leaving the team or the MCU entirely. Needless to say, the fact that Gamora will be away from the Guardians, with a new disposition reflected by her look, will heavily factor into the reunion and fate of the superhero team led by Star-Lord.
