Images allegedly leaked from the development of the slightest whiff of a GTA 6 leak is always a major story. Fans are desperate for the slightest shred of news, or to debunk anything that looks even vaguely unconvincing - and the debate between the faithful and the nonbelievers has been revived again by the latest supposed leak.

A post by @GTAVInewz on X (formerly Twitter) claims to include a photo taken within Rockstar's development offices, showing a computer monitor mid-game in GTA 6. The screen shows a third-person view of a playable character standing in front of a concrete half-wall. Palm trees rise in the distance behind industrial buildings that may be warehouses, while shipping containers are scattered about. There's also a PS5 dev kit lying on the desk next to the monitor; these devices are used by game developers to test and debug their releases on consoles.

The Internet Is Divided Over The Leak's Legitimacy

Real Or Fake? No One Seems To Know

But not everyone is convinced the photo is real. Fans are divided on the question of the leak's veracity, and there are no clear answers. The original post claims that the presence of the dev kit, which isn't publicly available for purchase and must be individually requested by developers, lends the image some credence. But some, like @StrikedVI, point out that there's a DualShock 4 - a PS4 controller - connected to the PS5 dev kit, which detracts from its legitimacy slightly.

GTA 6 Has Some Major Competition In 2025, And It's Not What You Think

While Grand Theft Auto 6 is almost guaranteed to be the best-selling game of 2025, it has major competition from a highly-anticipated open-world game.

Others, like @twitchspion, insist there's clear evidence of photoshopping, pointing to a few stray black pixels near the edge of the monitor. While that particular piece of evidence looks pretty damning at first glance, others dismiss this as a simple matter of poor image quality. And still others, like @KazHeatCulture, express a more general GTA leak fatigue, with an unwillingness to believe in the image because of how blurry and unfocused it is.

One , @0hioBallKnower, attempted to use details in the photo to triangulate its location. They compared the windows seen in the background to those seen in a satellite photo of Rockstar's San Diego offices, claiming that as evidence that it could be real.

Our Take: Real Or Not, It's Time For A New Trailer

Save Us From Ourselves, Rockstar

Lucia from GTA 6 with imagery from the game

For my money, I don't buy that the "leak" is real (although I acknowledge I could be wrong). The PS5 dev kit could be photoshopped, or the image could've been taken in the offices of any development studio with access to one. There's also no HUD on the screen at all, whereas most GTA games have at least a minimap visible. What really puts me off, though, is the version of Lucia seen on the screen. It's nearly identical to one that was revealed during a much earlier alleged leak. It doesn't match Lucia's appearance in the trailer, so I'm not convinced it's her actual character model.

Red Dead Redemption Will Always Be Better Than GTA For One Simple Reason

The Red Dead Redemption series will always be vastly stronger than Grand Theft Auto, and Rockstar Games makes the reason painfully obvious.

But whatever the case, it's clear fans are desperate for GTA 6 news, and this leak has barely satisfied their curiosity. The only real remedy is another trailer. Recent comments by a developer suggest that Rockstar prefers to encourage fan theories, creating a self-perpetuating cycle of hype. But with every day that es, the theories get wilder, and fans get more desperate to believe any piece of information that comes across their screens.

Barring any delays, we've now got less than a year until GTA 6 is out. If that release window is still accurate, then there's never been a better time to drop a new Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer, and confirm or debunk all these rumors in one fell swoop.
