Grand Theft Auto 6 is still at least a few months away so players wanting a taste of Rockstar's revamped Vice City need to check out this elaborate Grand Theft Auto 5 mod. One of the most exciting aspects of GTA 6 is the return of Vice City, a fictional stand-in for Miami that's become an iconic location for fans thanks to its neon-soaked atmosphere in GTA: Vice City. It's been over two decades since its PlayStation 2 debut so Rockstar's definitely made plenty of improvements, but until the studio shows off more, fans are creating their own upgrades.
Over on X (formerly Twitter), creator Dark Space showed off their gigantic mod that translates some of what's been shown of GTA 6 into GTA 5 and the result is impressive. "Project Vice" is a playable version of the GTA 6 map as interpreted by a fan who's clearly spent a great of time with the franchise, stitching together everything highlighted in the game's trailer with the blueprint established in the Vice City game. The result is staggering as Dark Space even shows off their creation with a lengthy trailer that demonstrates the add-on's scale.

Setting The Stage For Grand Theft Auto 6
While it's worth noting that Dark Space's take on GTA 6's map isn't reflective of Rockstar's game, it's still interesting to see what Vice City looks like when rendered in modern graphics. The PlayStation 2 version hasn't aged especially well as most of the world is very blocky and angular, so seeing it translated into a more realistic vision is fun. While the Definitive Edition did improve Vice City's presentation, it retained the older style so it's not really on par with Grand Theft Auto 5's aesthetic.
Based on the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6, it's clear that Rockstar is pushing the boundaries of what players expect in an open-world game. The level of detail in everything from the vistas to the masses of people active on the beachfront is evidence that the developer wants to make a statement. Dark Space's GTA 6.

Our Take: The Long Wait For GTA 6 Has Inspired Community Creativity
Starved Fans Just Want Another Trailer
I think it's obvious how excited players are for Grand Theft Auto 6 as the lack of new information has pushed creative fans to develop their own content. With the release date inching ever closer, the hype is only building so I have to imagine that more mods like "Project Vice" will soon be common in the GTA community. Rockstar has hinted that players can expect to officially return to Vice City in late 2025 but it remains to be seen whether the game is still on track to hit that release window.
