According to an industry insider, GTA: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition in early October, promising to enhance GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas for modern audiences.
The full unveiling that followed, though, received lukewarm reception from the public, with many lamenting the updated graphical style. Characters in the re-release boast a look that some have described as Sims-like in essence. And the fact that Rockstar has yet to show extensive footage of the gameplay in action continues to raise eyebrows about the remastered collection's overall quality. Since Grand Theft Auto Trilogy launches in just a couple of days' time, players don't have to wait too much longer to experience it all for themselves. But what seminal title will the development studio modernize next? One rumor claims a Red Dead Redemption remaster may soon be up to bat. Yet, another indicates 2008's GTA 4 is next in line.
Call of Duty leaker and Twitter RalphsValve claims a GTA 4 remaster is slated to launch at an undetermined point in 2023 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. While this supposed re-release won't pack in GTA 4's multiplayer suite, the leaker alleges that Rockstar and Take-Two plan to bundle in Episodes from Liberty City - a DLC offering comprised of The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony expansion packs.
RalphsValve's post boasts no corroborating evidence; thus, all of the above should be taken with a pinch of salt for now. A full GTA 4 remaster doesn't sound too far out of left field, though. If the original trilogy and Grand Theft Auto V are being brought forward for newer platforms, the Niko Bellic-starring GTA entry deserves another chance in the spotlight, as well.
That The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony expansions also garner mention in the alleged leak is just as interesting. Before Rockstar wowed the world with Red Dead Redemption's incredible Undead Nightmare DLC, the studio set the bar for post-launch content with GTA 4. The Lost and Damned revolves around a vicious turf war between notorious Liberty City biker gangs. Meanwhile, The Ballad of Gay Tony positions players in the role of Luis Lopez, an assistant to nightclub impresario Gay Tony whose glamorous life comes at a steep price.
Grand Theft Auto IV originally released on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2008.
