Warning! Spoilers ahead for Green Lantern #11!A violet-hued ring-wielder is coming back and she may be the only hope that Green Lantern and his allies have. Carol Ferris said 'goodbye' to her life as a Star Sapphire a long time ago. But amid a cosmic catastrophe, she's getting a new opportunity to reclaim her old life.
In Green Lantern #11 by Jeremy Adams, Xermánico and Amancay Nahuelpan, the Zamarons, leaders of the Star Sapphire Corps, are attacked by Thaaros after refusing to him. The Star Sapphire Central Power Battery is destroyed as Thaaros demands that the United Planets Lantern destroy every ring in sight.
On Earth, Carol Ferris impulsively decides to get hitched to her boyfriend Nate. The two head out to Vegas and find a Superman-themed chapel to say their vows. However, just as Carol says "I do", the wedding is interrupted by a Star Sapphire ring that offers itself up to her.
Carol Ferris is Now the DC Universe's Sole Star Sapphire
Once upon a time, Star Sapphire was one of Green Lantern's most dedicated antagonists. Whenever Carol came into with the powerful Star Sapphire gem, she'd become possessed and do everything to try and defeat Green Lantern. However, the Zamarons eventually altered their powerful weapon to allow their agents to have a bit more autonomy. Carol embraced being a Star Sapphire for some time, working alongside the Emotional Spectrum's other Corps and briefly leading the Star Sapphire Corps. However, Carol returned back to Earth to run Ferris Air, putting her life as Star Sapphire behind her for good.
It's surprising that a Star Sapphire ring is coming for Carol, especially since the Star Sapphire's Central Power Battery just exploded. But those with strong enough connections to aspects of the Emotional Spectrum can sometimes operate rings independently. Perhaps Carol's undying love for Hal is so strong that it's empowering one final Star Sapphire ring. Whatever the reason, Carol is getting the chance to become Star Sapphire once more and just in the nick of time. With Green Lantern and the Emotional Spectrum in danger, he's going to need Star Sapphire's help to take down his newest enemies.
Star Sapphire's Love Can Help Green Lantern's Final Stand
Right now, Green Lantern has a small resistance to help him take down the Corps' treacherous new leader, Lord Premier Thaaros. Unfortunately, things aren't going well and Hal needs help. Who better to help Green Lantern in his time of need than his old flame and someone with a love as mighty as Jordan's willpower? As much as Carol might want to leave her life as Star Sapphire behind, she's always going to help out Hal when she can. Hopefully, Star Sapphire's new ring can help Carol be the asset Green Lantern needs right now.
Green Lantern #11 is available now from DC Comics.
