Rockstar Games has banned all mention of Grand Theft Auto 6 from its official Twitch channel's chat. Easily one of the most anticipated games for current-gen platforms, Grand Theft Auto 6 has no confirmed release date but is currently in development.

Rockstar confirmed that GTA 6 was in development earlier in 2022, following years of reports, rumors, and speculation regarding the company's next project. Rockstar is yet to reveal anything concrete about the sequel to Grand Theft Auto 5, but more recent reports have potentially disclosed important details surrounding it. Earlier in the summer, it was reported that GTA 6 will have a female protagonist and be set in a stand-in for Miami - likely to be Vice City, the eponymous location of Rockstar's fourth GTA game. Hype for the title is huge, with this currently being the longest gap in between installments in the series yet.

As reported by Game Rant, Rockstar Games recently banned any mention of GTA 6 from its Twitch chat, mirroring a previous move enacted for its YouTube channel. s that choose to test out this new policy will be met with an automated message that refers to a conflict with the channel's moderation settings. This move is probably due to how quickly chat can be derailed if s begin talking only about future games, especially while Rockstar is streaming or posting about entirely different subjects. Rockstar fans have been vocal about GTA 6 for some time now, and it's not unusual for social media posts or comment sections to be completely taken over thanks to the mounting anticipation surrounding its release.

Rockstar's GTA 6 Twitch Ban Should Improve Fan Discussion

The seeming decision to ban all mentions of Grand Theft Auto 6 shouldn't be too surprising. Rockstar's title is arguably the most anticipated video game to date, with many players having spent years agonizing over potential leaks and rumors. Now that there's official confirmation a new GTA is in development, the months leading up to an official trailer reveal for GTA 6 are sure to be accompanied by even more fervent fan discussion. Even so, new updates for GTA Online are currently being developed and released, so it makes sense that Rockstar may wish to keep the focus there when it doesn't have anything to show regarding GTA 5's sequel.

While this kind of chat moderation could prove frustrating for those fans wishing to discuss GTA 6, it's understandable as to why Rockstar has taken these measures. The studio will want to see its efforts recognized on GTA Online - which has its own healthy and active playerbase almost a decade on from its initial launch - as well to promote the work that is currently being put into it. There are plenty of other places where fans can still discuss Grand Theft Auto 6, and Rockstar will likely lift these bans when it is ready to reveal the sequel.
