Gotham Knights gives players the chance to team up with friends as Batman's former sidekicks and protect the city of Gotham, but the full potential of that premise has had one major limitation thus far: not being able to play as all four heroes at once. Thankfully, Gotham Knights' Heroic Assault update will change that, allowing players to take on a new challenge as a full team of four. However, the additional mode's approach may not be what some were expecting from the long-awaited expansion to co-op play.
According to the Gotham Knights' Bat Family characters at once. Besides this release date and a brief summary of the mode's gameplay, though, little has been confirmed about Heroic Assault. With the update scheduled to arrive within the month, this lack of concrete information is intriguing, to say the least.
Gotham Knights Heroic Assault Mode - What It Will Include
Gotham Knights' Heroic Assault mode is described as taking place in a dedicated, arena-like environment with 30 "floors" of enemies to take down and objectives to complete. This game mode will be a standalone experience, not taking place in the larger open world or as part of the main campaign. Its gameplay is likely to be similar to the main game, with players facing a series of challenges in an enclosed environment rather than a sandbox. Other factors, such as whether players' kits from the main game will be used, haven't yet been clarified. Unfortunately, Gotham Knights' weird co-op choices will continue in Heroic Assault, at least for the time being.
Even with the lack of official details about Heroic Assault's gameplay, Gotham Knights players can look to elements of Batman: Arkham games for reference. In the character-focused DLC for Batman: Arkham Knight, players took on the roles of specific heroes, operating in a limited space with a specific objective, such as Nightwing clearing all enemies from a police precinct. Gotham Knight's Heroic Assault will likely have a similar structure, with a more comprehensive execution. In the future, the game mode could also be expanded upon to introduce new settings or a broader scope. Four-player co-op will be a major draw for current and new players alike, making Heroic Assault a perfect platform for future Gotham Knights DLC.
One of Gotham Knights' most sorely-needed features was four-player co-op, so Heroic Assault's arrival so soon after the game's launch is a welcome addition. Providing players with more opportunities to crack down on Gotham's criminal element and live in its world is how Gotham Knights will stay alive, hopefully with many more meaningful updates to come. Gotham Knights may have had a rocky launch, but as long as concepts like Heroic Assault keep being introduced and expanded upon, it may yet overcome its first impressions.
