Screen Rant is excited to present an exclusive behind-the-scenes clip from the delightfully sex-positive comedy Peaky Blinders) for an honest and refreshing look at how intimacy, self-acceptance, and sex work can all intertwine.
Written by Katy Brand (who worked with Thompson on Nanny Mhee Returns) and directed by Sophie Hyde (2019's Animals), Good Luck To You, Leo Grande follows retired school teacher Nancy (played by Thompson) on her post-marital sexual awakening. Leo (McCormack), of course, plays a large role in that as the sex worker she hires to show her the ropes. But what neither of them expected was the candor and genuine connection that would develop between them over the course of their sessions.
In the exclusive behind-the-scenes clip Hulu, the two Good Luck To You, Leo Grande stars break down the themes of sexual intimacy and the vocational aspect of Leo's job. McCormack shares the immediate interest he felt in portraying a character so rarely seen onscreen in the past, while Thompson reveals one of her favorite moments of Nancy's mind opening to the world of sex work and the possibilities that regulating it would entail. Hyde also gives audiences a peek into the creative process, explaining how the team had consultations with real-life sex workers in order to get a sense of their lives as they attempted to ground Leo's character in reality. While not every individual in the trade shares his story, there are plenty out there whose perspective has not yet been told because the world is more naturally focused on the salacious and tragic tales of unwilling participants.
Good Luck to You, Leo Grande had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, where it received glowing reviews and eventually landed distribution deals through Hulu in the US and Lionsgate in the UK. Now, American viewers can enjoy the warm and affectionate dramady from the comfort of their own home, and hopefully engage with the valuable message the story wishes to spread.
Other films available to stream on Hulu next month include the forever iconic The Princess.
