A recently-leaked photo from the set of first appearance of SpaceGodzilla in the Monsterverse, along with theories about how he is created and winds up on Earth (or in Hollow Earth).

The Monsterverse rarely introduces only one new element or monster per movie, however. After Godzilla: King of the Monsters revealed there were many more Titans on Earth than initially believed, Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire delved into the lore and history of Hollow Earth while introducing Mechagodzilla, Skar King, Shimo, and a handful of minor monsters. Even if SpaceGodzilla, Gigan, or another cosmic Godzilla villain arrives in the Monsterverse, the leaked set photo points to another major player in Godzilla’s history showing up to counteract their destruction.

A Matthew Modine Set Photo Could Signal The Arrival Of G-Force

Meru Ozawa as a member of G-Force - Godzilla

The set photo, which first appeared in the Courier Mail, shows Matthew Modine’s as-yet-unnamed character in what appears to be a military uniform, although not a traditional one associated with any singular nation. On the sleeve of the navy blue uniform is a patch logo in the style of other military organizations, which includes a thick, stylized sword pointing down and flanked by two flared objects that look like wings. Assuming those objects are in fact a sword and wings, then the logo appears to be a modernized version of the logo for G-Force.

Godzilla Minus One

During Godzilla's Heisei Era, G-Force appeared in a string of movies as a t military strike force created to respond to and battle Godzilla and other massive monsters like him. It was the military arm of the larger international organization, the United Nations Godzilla Countermeasures Center (U.N.G.C.C.), which was established as a pool of global resources to protect humanity. G-Force was established as a collaboration between the United Nations and the Japanese Self-Defense Forces (J.S.D.F.), one of the most noteworthy human organizations in Godzilla's history.

The History Of G-Force In Godzilla Movies

The Anti-Godzilla Agency Was A Staple Of The Heisei Era

G-Force first appeared in 1993's Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II, and was the organization responsible for rebuilding both the specialized weapon/vehicle known as the Garuda, along with the second Mechagodzilla, built from the remains of Mecha-King Ghidorah. The Garuda would eventually act as an augmentation for Mechagodzilla, and that t weapon known as Super Mechagodzilla nearly killed Big G. However, Rodan gave up his life force to power up Godzilla, who ultimately destroyed Super Mechagodzilla.

M.O.G.U.E.R.A. stands for "Mobile Operation Godzilla Universal Expert Robot Aero-type", and only made a single appearance in a Godzilla movie (Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla).

G-Force used the remnants of Super Mechagodzilla to build M.O.G.U.E.R.A., another massive mecha designed to take on Godzilla directly if need be. During the events of Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla, however, G-Force, via M.O.G.U.E.R.A., wound up working with Godzilla to take down the larger threat to the world in SpaceGodzilla. G-Force appeared one last time in Godzilla vs. Destoroyah as the originator of the Super X3, an ultra-advanced aircraft theoretically capable of freezing Godzilla before he melted down to nuclear explosion. While it proved incapable of that, it did freeze Destoroyah's wings and assist in its overall demise.

What Role G-Force Could Play In The Monsterverse

They Could Be The Antithesis Of Monarch

Monarch's USS Argo chased by Ghidorah in Godzilla: King of the Monsters

As Monarch: Legacy of Monsters revealed, Monarch has actually been reviled by world governments since its inception in the 1950s. Most world governments, and many private citizens like Walter Simmons of Apex, would prefer to eliminate the Titans once and for all as opposed to studying and tracking them. They believe that the destruction they bring far outweighs the environmental benefits, if they believe there are environmental benefits at all, as Monarch claims. At every turn, Monarch has seen push-back in one way or another, whether it’s had funding removed or projects shut down.

G-Force could function as the spiritual opposite of Monarch by operating much as it did during the Heisei Era. While Monarch seeks ways to work with and even help guardian Titans like Godzilla and Kong, G-Force could lean heavily on defense mechanisms that work on all Titans, including (and especially) Godzilla if necessary. If Godzilla X Kong: Supernova's title does in fact point to SpaceGodzilla, it seems plausible that the Monsterverse could echo Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla and have G-Force build M.O.G.U.E.R.A. to help Godzilla and Kong fight. The logo from the leaked set photo makes G-Force's arrival seem imminent.
