Godzilla x Kong 3's title has been revealed alongside the first footage as production begins. Following the financial success of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, a direct sequel was announced with Grant Sputore directing and David Callaham writing the script, which will introduce several new human characters as the two titular titans "face off against a cataclysmic world-ending threat." The Godzilla x Kong sequel cast includes Dan Stevens reprising his role as Trapper alongside franchise newcomers Kaitlyn Dever, Jack O'Connell, Matthew Modine, Delroy Lindo, Alycia Debnam-Carey, and Sam Neill.

Now, Warner Bros. has shared a video announcing that the sequel's official title is Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, along with the first footage from the film, which is now in production. The video begins in the Monarch offices and slowly tracks toward a computer screen, revealing an emergency alert and a real phone number, (240) MONARCH, for fans to call and report a titan sighting. After cutting to black and revealing the logo, the video confirms the film is now in production. Watch the video below:

Everything That Was Just Revealed

There were reports that the previously untitled sequel was set to begin filming in April 2025, and now, the video confirms that Godzilla x Kong: Supernova is officially in production. Given the extended production schedule, it's likely that principal photography will continue for much of 2025, leaving all of 2026 available for the extensive visual effects work characteristic of the Monsterverse franchise. With it now in production, Godzilla x Kong: Supernova should have no problem meeting its currently scheduled release in March 2027.

While the video doesn't reveal much about the movie, the computer screen does show a call coming in from Sedona, Arizona, which, in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, is where Scylla emerged after King Ghidorah awakened Titans from across the world to challenge Godzilla. However, it's unclear how this could relate to Supernova. There are also some other fun Easter eggs in the video, such as a Godzilla bobblehead and a mug that reads "Keep Kong and Carry On" on the desk.

What Does The Title Mean?

Since Supernova doesn't refer to any existing monster or power in the Kong or Godzilla franchises, it's unclear what exactly the title refers to. However, since a supernova is an exploding star, it's possible that the sequel could be headed to space, and that SpaceGodzilla could be introduced, which was created from the energy of a star. A supernova also signifies the death of a star, suggesting that one of the titular titans could meet their demise in Godzilla x Kong: Supernova.

Godzilla x Kong: Supernova is scheduled for release on March 26, 2027.
