Unused concept art for Godzilla vs. Kong art book revealed images of a cave mural depicting a battle that seemingly occurred during the war fought between Godzilla and Kong’s ancestors. The central figure in the mural, which appears to be a flying Godzilla, has raised numerous questions regarding what really happened in the Titan War.

The leading theory is that the monster is the MonsterVerse interpretation of SpaceGodzilla. However, a second explanation exists for the mysterious, winged Godzilla. The wings have been likened to Godzilla: King of the Monsters’ Mothra, meaning that the Queen of the Titans herself may be the subject of the artwork. She is known to have a symbiotic relationship with Godzilla, so that would make sense to a degree. But exactly what’s being shown in the mural is still unclear, even if it is Mothra. One possible answer is that she’s carrying Godzilla, but it’s hard to say for sure if that’s really the case.

Do Mothra & Godzilla Have A Secret Transformation?

It’s been suggested that the wings on Godzilla are the product of a merging between the two Titans. A transformation of this nature would be unprecedented in both the MonsterVerse and the Godzilla franchise as a whole, but King of the Monsters’ ending makes it a possibility worth considering. When Mothra was dying, she managed to impart what was left of her life essence into Godzilla’s body, granting him a fiery upgrade. As evidenced by the Mothra silhouette spotted in Godzilla’s nuclear pulse attack, a piece of her remained within him for a brief time. If that can happen, there’s at least a chance that Mothra fused with Godzilla on an even greater level thousands of years ago.

Did Mothra Help Godzilla Beat Kong During The Titan War?

Regardless of what Mothra may have done, the idea that she assisted Godzilla during the Titan War isn’t without merit. In the opening credits, a different mural showed Godzilla, Kong, a Skullcrawler and a monster who looked suspiciously like Mothra fighting it out. If that was indeed Mothra, it stands to reason that she would have been on Godzilla’s side. King of the Monsters makes it obvious that the two have a history as allies, so it’s easy to see that team-up happening in the midst of the Titan War.

If Mothra participated in the Titan War in any way and the creature in the mural truly isn’t the MonsterVerse’s SpaceGodzilla, it’s likely that details of her role will finally be uncovered in Godzilla vs. Kong 2. Based on the synopsis for the sequel, the history of the Titans and the war in general will be relevant to the story. What the humans may find out about the origin of the Titan War could yield some interesting reveals about the reason for the fighting and the creatures involved.
