Godzilla: King of the Monsters by finding room for Godzilla’s minions. At the end of Godzilla’s second MonsterVerse movie, the iconic kaiju secured his position as the alpha of the Titans by beating Ghidorah. And in doing so, he acquired at least a handful of his own Titan underlings.

King of the Monsters set up Rodan, Methuselah, Behemoth, Scylla, and the third MUTO to serve as allies of Godzilla in the MonsterVerse’s future, but all five were missing from Godzilla vs. Kong’s story. By choosing not to use them, the crossover film failed to give proper meaning to King of the Monsters’ ending. Beating Ghidorah made Godzilla the alpha, but that title doesn’t hold any significance if he doesn’t have monsters to command. For the ending to truly matter, the MonsterVerse needs Titans who can follow Godzilla into battle and treat him as the true King of the Monsters. The best way for that to work is for the MonsterVerse to give Godzilla his minions back in his next movie.

What Happened to Godzilla’s Minions?

The whereabouts of Rodan and the others wasn’t mentioned in Godzilla vs. Kong, but the MonsterVerse has ed for their absence. In Godzilla: Dominion, a graphic novel that functions as a prequel to the movie, it was revealed that Ghidorah’s decision to wake up all the Titans had a tiring effect on Godzilla. Following his victory, Godzilla patrolled the Earth in an effort to keep his new minions in line. After two years of this, Godzilla let out a roar that ordered them all back into hibernation, thus allowing himself a much-needed period of rest. The Titans all being asleep in the timeframe of Godzilla vs. Kong explains why none showed up for any of the fights.

How Godzilla’s Minions Can Return in Godzilla vs. Kong 2

Scylla stands over a destroyed city in Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

Godzilla’s minions are currently off the board, but it wouldn’t take much to bring them back into the equation. If Godzilla can send them into hibernation, he can just as easily bring them out of it when the need arises. The time for that could finally come in Godzilla vs. Kong 2 if Godzilla needs help to take down his next opponent. Rodan, the four original Titans from King of the Monsters, and any of the movie’s 11 missing Titans could fight at Godzilla’s side if called into action. Since he’s the alpha, they’d naturally have to respect his orders.

According to a synopsis for the movie, Godzilla and Kong will be battling an “undiscovered threat hidden deep within our world.” Presumably, this description refers to one or more powerful Titans dwelling somewhere in the Hollow Earth. If the “threat” mentioned by the synopsis is indeed plural, getting his allies in the fight may become necessary. A full-scale Titan War may have to happen for Godzilla and Kong to overcome their next challenge. If that’s true, Godzilla’s position as alpha may be more important than ever in Godzilla vs. Kong 2.
