Thanks to Godzilla: King of the Monsters, the MonsterVerse already has the perfect answer to Biollante. Despite her history as a one-and-done villain, Biollante is often discussed as a creature that could eventually be adapted to the MonsterVerse. She’s one of a handful of candidates for Godzilla’s next MonsterVerse opponent.

Having debuted in Godzilla vs. Biollante, the plant-like kaiju provided the Heisei era with one of the most nuanced monster origin stories in the history of the Godzilla franchise. Created from the spliced DNA of a scientist’s dead daughter, Godzilla, and a rose, Biollante is an incredibly powerful monster with a special link to both the King of the Monsters and humanity. And with her vines and other plant-based powers, Biollante acted as a formidable foe for Godzilla. And though she ultimately survived their encounter at the end of the movie, she never made a second live-action appearance. However, there’s always a reason to hope that Toho or perhaps Legendary will eventually find a place for her in their movies.

For now, at least, Biollante doesn’t exist in the MonsterVerse, but a reveal in the Godzilla vs. Kong prequel graphic novel Godzilla: Dominion indicates that it may not necessarily need her. Apparently, the MonsterVerse has a Titan that’s comparable to Biollante. Amhuluk, whose name was mentioned on a monitor screen in King of the Monsters, was officially introduced in Dominion as a giant, moss-covered, tree-like Titan with a physically imposing design. Like Biollante, Amhuluk can lash out and restrain its enemies with long vines that act as appendages. Based on its menacing appearance and plant-like powers, Amhuluk could be a fitting substitute for Biollante in Legendary’s MonsterVerse.

Could Godzilla Fight Amhuluk In The MonsterVerse?

As an original Titan, Amhuluk may actually have a better prospect of showing up in the MonsterVerse than the real Biollante. As MonsterVerse directors like Godzilla: King of the Monsters’ Mike Dougherty and Godzilla vs. Kong’s Adam Wingard have pointed out in the past, getting the rights to Toho’s properties can be costly, which is why it’s so much easier to use original Titans instead. So, if a movie like Godzilla vs. Kong 2 were to ever feature a full-on Titan War, Amhuluk would have a decent chance of appearing, whereas Biollante would most likely be an option only if she were to be the main villain.
