After going toe-to-toe with some of the Marvel Universe's greatest heroes, Godzilla is preparing to take on the Marvel Universe at large, and Marvel's honoring the occasion with a cover fans have to see to believe.
It was only a month ago that Marvel announced Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe, a five-issue miniseries by Gerry Duggan and Javier Garron that sees the King of the Monsters battling Marvel's heroes and villains. Now Marvel Comics is giving fans a sneak peek at issue two and a variant that merges two stars to create a horrifying new monster.
Dave Wachter provides a new 'Marvelized' cover, this time fusing Godzilla with Ghost Rider. The monster is a fusion of beast and metal, surrounded by chains as Godzilla's skull is aflame as one would expect of any other Ghost Rider.
Marvel Comics Reveals Ghost-Rider-Zilla in Killer New Cover Art
Godzilla Meets Ghost Rider in Marvelized Mash-Up
Godzilla's history with Marvel Comics stretches all the way back to the '70s, back when the King of the Monsters had an ongoing title set in the mainline universe. Now, Godzilla has made a comeback for the ages with a series of one-shots, Godzilla vs. Marvel, which has pitted him against the likes of Spider-Man, the Hulk, the Fantastic Four, and even the Avengers. But these battles were just the appetizer as Marvel and Toho have partnered for a follow-up miniseries, Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe, which sees Godzilla face off with a Celestial and bond with a symbiote.
Interestingly enough, this isn't the first mashup cover Dave Wachter has done for Marvel as the first issue of Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe will come with a variant that depicts an amalgamation of the Thing and the titular kaiju. Unfortunately, there's no indication that Godzilla will actually gain Ghost Rider's supernatural powers, meaning Wachter's cover could be the only time fans will actually see 'Ghost-Rider-Zilla'. But the idea behind this fusion is an interesting one. Aside from looking like a much cooler Mechagodzilla, just imagine how powerful Godzilla’s atomic breath would be when merged with Ghost Rider's hellfire.
Ghost-Rider-Zilla Could Be the Most Powerful Godzilla Yet
This Marvelized Godzilla is Too Good to Waste in a Variant Cover
The Godzilla vs. Marvel one-shots have already given the fan-favorite monster some seriously cool upgrades, including a gamma-powered boost from Hulk. But the supernatural power Ghost Rider has flowing within him could take Godzilla to the next level. Sure, Godzilla might not need the assistance, but Ghost-Rider-Zilla looks damn cool, and it’d be awesome to see it play out in the Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe miniseries. While there’s sure to be a lot of great moments in the crossover, hopefully fans will get to see this Godzilla/Ghost Rider union in action.
Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe #2 will be available on August 20th from Marvel Comics.
