The credits rolled them out in a string of incomplete messages, purposely leaving out words and forcing viewers to use context clues to piece together their meaning. Shortly after mentioning Monarch scientists' missions to find "dormant Titans all over the world," the credits dropped a very curious phrase that could come with major implications: "explored ruins in Peru, Vietnam, and Easter Island." The obvious takeaway from this reveal is that these three locations are related in some way to Titan activity.

There wasn't a marker on Easter Island in King of the Monsters when it mapped out all the known Titan locations, but the assumption adds up regardless. After all, at least one of these three regions is already a confirmed Titan location, hence why the other two could be as well. The monitor screens in King of the Monsters offered confirmation that Monarch had an outpost at the ruins of Machu Pichu, Peru, where it kept an eye on a Titan it had designated "Quetzalcoatl." What was found at Easter Island, if anything, hasn't been disclosed.

The mere mention of it in the King of the Monsters credits and the suggestion that Monarch visited it proves that there had to be a reasonable suspicion of a Titan presence on Easter Island. That makes sense, given that ancient civilizations worshiping Titans appears to be a theme in the Monsterverse. Based on all this, it looks like Monarch thought that the famous Easter Island statues and the real-life questions about their construction might have been related to a monster. Whether that's true or not has not proven in the Monsterverse, but the notion itself is not new - in fact, it stems from a 1973 Godzilla movie.

In Godzilla vs. Megalon, Easter Island played a crucial role in the backstory provided to Megalon, a cockroach-like kaiju with drills for hands and a propensity for burrowing underground. The movie introduced Megalon as a deity worshiped by the people of Seatopia, an underground civilization. According to Godzilla vs. Megalon, Seatopia was located underneath Easter Island.

Megalon made his first and only movie appearance in Godzilla vs. Megalon, which featured a two-on-two battle. Godzilla's ally in the fighting was Jet Jaguar, while Megalon's was Gigan.

Godzilla vs. Megalon built a strong connection between Seatopia and Easter Island that went beyond the location. One way it did that was through the giant head statues, which are synonymous with Easter Island in popular culture. During the movies' Seatopia scenes, structures identical to the Easter Island statues could be spotted in the background. The Monsterverse Has Already Proven Humans Still Live In The Hollow Earth

Although Godzilla vs. Megalon's depiction of Seatopia is arguably one of the silliest parts of the Showa era, the possibility of it existing in the Monsterverse isn't far-fetched at all, especially after Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. The 2024 movie saw Monarch come across as a human civilization hidden deep within the Monsterverse's Hollow Earth world. These humans, who are related to the Iwi tribe from Skull Island, worship Mothra in a secret temple. Their existence is reminiscent of Seatopia, and shows how seamlessly the underground city and its god could fit into the Monsterverse.

Now that the Monsterverse has washed away any lingering doubts about humans living in the Hollow Earth and having organized societies, it should be relatively easy for it to introduce Seatopia. The Monsterverse could even build on the lore surrounding Mothra's temple in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire by introducing Seapotia as the Hollow Earth Iwi tribe's evil counterpart. Whereas the people who worship Mothra are treated as a benevolent group, Megalon's worshippers could be violent isolationists who views humans on the surface as threats and deploy Megalon to dispose of them.

Could Megalon Be Godzilla & Kong's Next Main Villain?

Megalon Has Never Been Considered One Of Godzilla's Strongest Villains

Given the direction of the Monsterverse since Godzilla: King of the Monsters and its continued emphasis on the Hollow Earth, the prospect of another big-screen Megalon appearance certainly feels like it's on the table. That said, he's still far from the most likely candidate to serve as the next main villain for Godzilla and Kong. Making Megalon a Titan powerful enough to challenge both monsters would take drastic changes to the kaiju, which is why there's a much greater chance of Megalon appearing as a secondary villain if he were to appear at all. Megalon could be utilized as one of several Hollow Earth Titans to emerge in the Godzilla x Kong sequel.
