Godzilla vs. Kong, which means that humans will find a way to capture him. It would seem that the King of the Monsters isn’t the only threat Kong will have to worry about in the MonsterVerse movie.
Though Kong – more so than Godzilla – is a monster known for being able to form personal connections with humans, he has shared adversarial relationships with them as well. In Kong: Skull Island, the giant ape grew angry when a group of humans came to his island, attacked him with their guns, and disturbed the Skullcrawlers in the Hollow Earth. One human in particular, Packard (Samuel L. Jackson), made it his mission to rid the world of Kong. Despite his best efforts, he was killed by the ape, who actually received some assistance from the survivors of the expedition in the final battle against the Skullcrawlers.
Another conflict between humanity and Kong was confirmed by the presence of a metal collar on his neck in the newly revealed footage for Godzilla vs. Kong. It appears that Kong’s massive size boost won’t stop the humans from being able to subdue him. Even so, capturing a Titan as large and powerful as Kong can’t be an easy feat to accomplish. However, that doesn’t mean it’s impossible to do. In the original King Kong movie from 1933, the beast fell into unconsciousness after being hit with a gas bomb. That was how they brought him to New York City. Of course, Kong is much bigger now than he was in that film, but it could be that the MonsterVerse version will still be susceptible to gas if he’s bombarded with a significant amount of it.
Since humans won’t have the firepower to do it themselves, gas may be their best weapon against Kong. Using force won’t work against the powerful Titan — unless Mechagodzilla is in play. This scenario would of course depend on who controls Mechagodzilla, and which faction is the one who apprehends Kong. Monarch could be responsible if they’re trying to get him out of the way for their exploration into Hollow Earth, or it may be the movie’s villains who are behind his capture. Their intention may be to take Skull Island for themselves. Either way, the humans may be determined to remove Kong from the equation by any means necessary.
Mechagodzilla may be the solution to their Kong problem. In a one-on-one showdown, Kong could fall in battle to Mechagodzilla. If the humans stop him from making a finishing blow, they could then put Kong in shackles. Losing to Mechagodzilla could be key to the story, as it would set him up as an incredibly powerful villain that one Titan may not be capable of beating without help. This could lead to an eventual team-up between the King of the Monsters and the King of Skull Island against Godzilla’s robotic counterpart at the end of Godzilla vs. Kong.
