It's possible that Ghidorah gains a new power (or ability) in Godzilla vs Kong in 2020, the iconic kaiju has another solo movie on the way.
Michael Dougherty's Godzilla: King of the Monsters continues the story that left off with 2014's Godzilla film and sees three new monsters - Godzilla: King of the Monsters' second trailer, all of the monsters are battling Godzilla for dominance, and his biggest challenger will undoubtedly be Ghidorah, whose sheer power and might dwarf Godzilla's in multiple iterations - and that may be magnified, perhaps a little, in the new movie.

At the 1:17 mark in the latest Godzilla: King of the Monsters trailer, viewers can briefly see (and hear) the spikes in Ghidorah's tail open up, thus meaning that the spikes can be retracted. It's not something that's been explicitly shown in Toho's old movies, which means it could very well be a brand new ability or power in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, depending entirely on what Ghidorah can do with its tail. If Ghidorah can simply retract the spikes on command, then it's an ability, but if Ghidorah can do something unique with the spikes, then that's something else entirely.
In addition to figuring out what Ghidorah can do with its tail, it remains to be seen if both tails have retractable spikes or just one of them. After all, each of Ghidorah's three heads has a different personality (and they're all being portrayed by different actors in the film). So, that also begs the question, which of Ghidorah's heads controls the spikes? Lots of questions have arisen since WB started marketing Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and there will certainly be more as the movie's release date gets closer.
One thing's for sure, though, Ghidorah might become the true king of the monsters - and it'll be well-deserved considering just how powerful the three-headed dragon truly is.
