Designs were created for three additional Titans in 2014’s Godzilla movie. The male and female MUTOs proved to be powerful adversaries for Godzilla, but there were other candidates for his rivals in the movie. Godzilla could have fought monsters that differ greatly from the two chosen for the movie.

Legendary’s MonsterVerse is populated with dozens of Titans, many of which being creatures who have remained hidden for millennia deep underground or in the hidden Hollow Earth world. Godzilla served as the building blocks for all the lore in the MonsterVerse by introducing a new interpretation of Godzilla and the two MUTOS. Interestingly, audiences’ introduction to Godzilla’s world nearly happened quite differently. Unused artwork associated with the movie confirms plans for Titans knowns as Pterodactyl, Vishnu, and Rokmutul. But of course, none of them have actually appeared in the MonsterVerse. Here's everything known about the three scrapped Titans.

Rokmutul

Godzilla King of the Monsters Mystery Monster Rokmutul

Released Godzilla concept art for Rokmutul reveals that one of the movie’s unmade Titans was a six-legged monster with spines that stretched all the way down its back. Larger spikes on its tail suggest that it would have been used to stab or cut the MonsterVerse's Godzilla in battle. With a body structure that can be likened to that of an ankylosaurus, Rokmutul’s design makes him come across as a possible answer to Anguirus, one of Godzilla’s most iconic allies in Toho’s movies. But while Anguirus closely resembles the real-life ankylosaur, Rokmutul looks more like a completely original monster.

Pterodactyl

In the movie, the male MUTO, who was significantly smaller than the female member of the pair, was a huge thorn in Godzilla’s side. Though it lacked the raw power to match up with Godzilla physically, its ability to take to the air made beating it a frustrating challenge for the alpha predator. One of the creature designs for the movie provides a look at what may have been an alternative to the male MUTO. It seems Pterodactyl would have been a reptilian monster with four wings and a serpentine body. Had this creature appeared in the movie, it’s likely that he would have ended up with the role given to the male MUTO.

Vishnu

Godzilla SDCC Trailer 2014 Vishnu Centipede

At SDCC 2012, Legendary released a short teaser trailer that previewed the studio’s vision for Godzilla. Spotted in the background was the corpse of a centipede-like monster. The creature’s inclusion in the trailer hinted that it would have a presence in the finished film, but it was not to be. It never became an official MonsterVerse Titan, but did receive a nickname from the fans: “Vishnu.” The name stems from the fact that the Hindu god of the same name was spoken in the voiceover by Robert Oppenheimer in the same shot where the monster was shown in the trailer.

Will Godzilla 2014’s Cut Tians Ever Appear In The MonsterVerse?

Presumably, both the designs of Rokmutul and Pterodactyl were rejected by the studio in favor of the two MUTOs, which may have been deemed better fits for the story. There wouldn't have been room for all of them, especially since the entire story hinged on the threat of two monsters meeting and reproducing. As for the centipede Titan, it may be that its role in the MonsterVerse was never meant to go beyond the SDCC 2012 trailer. If that’s the case, there’s little reason to suspect it’ll ever make an actual appearance in a MonsterVerse movie.

The same could hold true for Rokmutul and Pterodactyl, but the possibility of either monster from Godzilla being utilized in a future movie shouldn’t be ruled out altogether. With Godzilla vs. Kong 2 expected to dive deeper into the Hollow Earth mythos, there’s a high likelihood of more Titans emerging soon. Since humans have finally found a way to safely enter the original home of the Titans, more of these creatures getting disturbed and waking up from their hibernation feels like an inevitable scenario for the MonsterVerse’s future.

The continued emphasis on the Hollow Earth could easily be used as an opportunity to introduce more Toho monsters into the MonsterVerse in Godzilla vs. Kong 2, but when taking into consideration the financial issues that come with purchasing their licensing rights, the movie may put more focus on introducing original Titans than pulling from Toho’s library. If so, a slim chance exists for Rokmutul or Pterodactyl to show up as Hollow Earth Titans as foes for Godzilla and Kong to fight. Based on their menacing designs, the two monsters have the potential to be imposing additions to the MonsterVerse’s lineup of original Titans.
