Serving as a fresh start for the brutal action franchise, 2018's God of War takes players on an intense and emotional journey through Norse mythology. Kratos and Atreus' journey is heartfelt and brutal, with moments of humor serving to break up an otherwise somber narrative. However, PC mods have allowed gamers to transform God of War into a truly hilarious experience using alternate character models and voice lines. Fans were imagining truly outrageous mods even before the port's release in January 2022, with one popular piece of concept art swapping God of War's Kratos for GTA: San Andreas' CJ to create a wildly different fantasy adventure.
Now modder and YouTuber Omega Fantasy has brought that hilarious concept art to life in the form of an actual God of War mod. The bizarre creation, made available by Omega Fantasy via Patreon, replaces Kratos with a pixelated model of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas protagonist Carl "CJ" Johnson. The swap even changes the Leviathan Axe, which gets replaced by an old-fashioned baseball bat. Going even further, and perhaps a step too far, Omega Fantasy's mod replaces Atreus with a horrifying version of the beloved purple dinosaur Barney. While most early God of War mods adjust the game's character models, more in-depth creations have also begun to pop up. While animations are understandably rough, the mod manages to put s in complete control of Atreus as he nimbly traverses the battlefield and fires arrows at opponents. Playing as Atreus has long been a dream for fans, but mods have quickly made it a reality.
Omega Fantasy's CJ mod for God of War fulfills an unusual fan request, allowing s to fight through Midgard with a baseball bat as the Grand Theft Auto icon. Atreus' transformation into Barney is the terrifying icing on the cake, displaying the full potential of God of War PC mods.
