The God of War franchise may have moved beyond its Greek origins but a new rumor claims Kratos' original adventures may soon receive a fresh coat of paint. While modern audiences are likely more familiar with Kratos as the bearded warrior of Norse legend thanks to 2018's God of War and its 2022 sequel God of War: Ragnarok, the wrathful deity started life in a different world. Its combat may not be as refined as the recent duology but the so-called Greek Trilogy still has plenty of fans.
Over on Reddit, Feeling-Examination6 noted that they've heard whispers of a remastered collection of God of War games that will arrive "sooner than expected."
Many have taken this to mean that Sony is looking to bring the older God of War games to modern hardware with upgraded visuals and control schemes. It's worth noting that Feeling-Examination6 has recently correctly predicted two major announcements in the form of the Ninja Gaiden 4 reveal and the release date of the action-adventure game Hell is Us.
Could God Of War's Greek Trilogy Return?
It Certainly Seems Possible
As is the case with all rumors, fans should take this God of War report with a grain of salt until PlayStation officially announces it. Further rumors claim that Sony is planning to host a State of Play event in the near future, possibly as soon as February 14. Whether or not the showcase does take form remains to be seen but given PlayStation's fairly quiet release schedule, it's easy to see the company falling back on older titles to pad out its 2025 slate.
The original PlayStation 2 God of War games have already received the remaster treatment as the first title from 2005 and its 2007 sequel were both brought over to the PlayStation 3 in a bundle package that sported enhanced visuals. Similarly, God of War 3 was also remastered for PlayStation 4. Fans are likely hoping the rumored remastered collection also includes the beloved PSP games Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta, and the often-forgotten Ascension which is still only officially available on the PS3.

The Next God Of War Game Switching Settings To Egypt Could Make It The Darkest Entry Yet
The next God of War game is rumored to be changing its setting to Egypt, which is not only a great idea, but could make the series so much darker.
Kratos' Origins Deserve More Love
The Greek Trilogy Is Great Fun, Even If It Hasn't Aged Too Well
As much as I enjoy Sony Santa Monica's battle of Kratos and Zeus.
