eight-episode order was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The series finally premiered in May and was lauded for its soundtrack and hilarious themes.
According to Deadline, Girls5Eva has been renewed for a second season at Peacock. Lisa Katz, President of Scripted Content at parent company NBCUniversal, explained that it was "hard to miss the immediate fandom that was born after the launch of this series.” Katz later added, "We look forward to following this group’s journey as they continue to hit just the right notes."
Fey, who found success with 2004’s Mean Girls, says the show uses the age of time to reflect on problematic behaviors from the past. “Whether it’s the way David Letterman dismantled Lindsay Lohan or an underage Britney Spears singing ‘Slave 4 U,'” Fey explained at the Tribeca Festival, “we’re all looking back at those things now and being like, ‘Oh, we all cosigned that?’” The recent Friends reunion reminded viewers of problematic storylines from the '90s NBC comedy, and as Fey explains, Girls5Eva offers audiences a chance to grapple with the complicated era. Judging by the positive reception to season 1, it's no surprise to see that Girls5Eva is returning for another season at Peacock.
