Ginny & Georgia gets a big renewal from Netflix, but it comes with a significant change. The dramedy, which debuted on Netflix in February 2021, stars Brianne Howey and Antonia Gentry as the titular daughter-mother duo. It has been a big hit with audiences, featuring in Nielsen's Top 10 charts for eight weeks following the release of season 2 earlier this year. Now, along with confirmation about the show's future, there's news about why a renewal has taken so long.
According to Deadline, Netflix has given Ginny & Georgia a two-season renewal, which would take the series up through season 4. Along with the announcement that Ginny & Georgia's cast will return, and word that the announcement was held to coincide with Netflix's Upfronts presentation, the episodes will see a change behind the camera. Sarah Glinski, who previously worked on Degrassi: The Next Generation, has been named showrunner. She replaces Debra J. Fisher in the role, reportedly due to friction between Fisher and series creator Sarah Lampert.
What's Next For Ginny & Georgia?
There are a lot of storylines for Ginny & Georgia season 3 to tackle. In the season 2 finale, which starts off on a happier note, Paul and Georgia get married. Ginny even delivers her maid of honor speech. Things take a turn, however, once Georgia gets arrested for Tom's murder. This will likely be a big focus for the show, given that it complicates the lives of several characters.
Beyond that surprising development, other storylines for Ginny & Georgia include Ginny's turbulent relationship with Marcus, Abby's own evolution, and Max's romantic life. But the focus, at least initially, will likely be on the massive fallout of Georgia's arrest and what it means for Ginny, Austin, and Paul. After that is sorted, if it is, other threads will have more space to unspool.
Still, given that Ginny & Georgia has a two-season order, the dramedy will likely be building its blocks well beyond that initial cliffhanger and potentially even thinking about the potential series finale whenever production begins. It's a good sign for those that binged the series, propelling it to one of Netflix's more popular offerings of 2023 so far.
