Warning! Spoilers for Ginny & Georgia ahead!

Ginny & Georgia season 4 even made a tongue-in-cheek joke about how long Ginny has been a sophomore. Still, the series can't get away with this for much longer.

Netflix's teen dramedy Ginny & Georgia started with the titular characters' (plus Austin) moving to Wellsbury and establishing their lives there. A whole lot has happened since then. Over three seasons, Georgia fell in love with and married the mayor, Paul, was arrested for the murder of Tom Fuller, spent some time in jail (then prison), and was found not guilty by the jury thanks to Austin's confession that his father, Gil, had been the killer. All of this happened within a single school year, and while Ginny & Georgia could continue with this condensed timeline, an alternative route may be better.

Ginny & Georgia Season 4 Should Jump Ahead In Time After Season 3's Ending

Netflix Needs To Balance Out The Timeline

Ginny & Georgia season 1 picked up in September as Ginny started her sophomore year, and season 3 ended as she and her peers entered summer vacation. Given the established formula, it would make sense that Ginny & Georgia season 4 would pick back up in September again as Ginny starts her junior year of high school. Marcus would likely be out of rehab by this point, which means a perfect opportunity for him and Ginny to establish what their relationship will be like going into the new season of Ginny & Georgia. Still, this series may need more than just a two-month jump.

4 Years Later, Ginny & Georgia Season 3 Finally Asks The Question We've Been Thinking The Whole Time

It's been 4 years since we met Georgia in Ginny & Georgia season 1, and the Netflix series' recent installment has finally asked the big question.

Though it's believable enough that so much would happen in a single year for these characters, a condensed timeline like the one in Ginny & Georgia eventually becomes difficult for audiences to wrap their minds around. From our perspective, the relationships established in this series began nearly half a decade ago, so it's challenging to that it has only been a short time for the characters themselves. For this reason, it would be helpful if Ginny & Georgia season 4 balanced things out a bit.

If Ginny & Georgia season 4 were to pick up with Ginny well established in her junior year, then audiences' timelines would be a bit more aligned with those of the characters. Things would have wound down following Georgia's trial, and we could observe how different relationships have evolved in the time since. The familiarity between characters would be more organic and believable this way as well. Still, the biggest argument for a Ginny & Georgia timeline comes down to the ages of the actors compared to their characters, especially for Austin and Zach.

A Time Skip Would Make Austin's & Zach's Ages Slightly More Believable

Austin's & Zach's Ages Were A Laughable Problem In Ginny & Georgia Season 3

One of the more bizarre aspects of Ginny & Georgia season 3 was just how much Austin and Zach had grown up since we last saw them. Diesel La Torraca, who plays Georgia's son Austin, was born in 2011, so he was approximately 10 years old when Ginny & Georgia season 1 was released in 2021. His character is meant to be the same age in season 3, but the actor is now clearly much older—about 14, in fact. Season 3 picks up on the day of Georgia's arrest, and while the other actors looked the same, Austin suddenly went from being a young, adorable little boy to being a teenager.

Season 3 picks up on the day of Georgia's arrest, and while the other actors looked the same, Austin suddenly went from being a young, adorable little boy to being a teenager.

The same was true for Austin's classmate, Zach (Connor Laidman), who was suddenly the same height as his mother, Cynthia, in Ginny & Georgia season 3. We might have been able to forgive the sudden changes in these characters if it weren't for the fact that so many of their scenes were set at an elementary school. These actors are closer to the ages that Ginny and her friends are supposed to be, yet they were placed in colorful classrooms and made to behave like meek children.

The COVID-19 pandemic and the SAG-AFTRA/WGA strikes made it difficult for Netflix to produce Ginny & Georgia seasons in a timely manner, but we can hope that season 4 will arrive much sooner than two years from now. Still, the damage is done. We can forgive season 3 for its age discrepancies, but it's essential that season 4 make a change so that these characters' ages are far more believable. Additionally, this would be beneficial for the story dynamics after season 3.

The Dynamics At The End Of Season 3 Could Be Improved By A Time Jump

These Connections Need Space To Evolve

The events of Ginny & Georgia's first three seasons are a complete arc. There was an organic rise and fall, and many of the aspects introduced in season 1 found their resolution in 2025's new episodes. Of course, there is still much to explore here. Ginny & Georgia season 3 set up the continued story perfectly, but there is a sense that this is a whole new start. Season 4 will be the beginning of an entirely new arc, but before we dive into further chaos, there needs to be a sense that things have died down after the significant climax of Georgia's murder trial.

Ginny & Georgia Season 3 Cast And Character Guide

The cast of Ginny & Georgia season 3 has brought back the titular characters' messy story with a few new names on the roster playing fresh characters.

A time jump would effectively achieve this. It's important that we see how the community in Wellsbury has adapted to Georgia's character. Moreover, it's essential for the relationships between Georgia and the various men who have loved her (Zion, Paul, and Joe) to have settled into a new sort of normal after they all saw her true colors. Then there is Georgia's relationships with her children. Ginny compromised her morality to save her mother, and this certainly took a toll. Austin should be even worse off, and a time jump can help us better see how his big lie in season 3 has impacted him long term.

Why A Time Jump Might Be Difficult For Ginny & Georgia Season 4 To Pull Off

Georgia's Pregnancy Makes Things More Complicated

Of course, the ending of Ginny & Georgia season 3 doesn't make an extended time jump easy. This most recent installment left off with the cliffhanger reveal that Georgia is pregnant. It would be weird not to see how she handles this in the early stages. Georgia has to figure out who the baby's father is, and we need to see the reactions of characters like Joe, Paul, or Zion to such big news.

As it is, Ginny & Georgia's flashback formula may be the answer to this issue. Instead of jumping back to Georgia's younger years as seasons 1 through 3 did, season 4 could feature periodic flashbacks from the new setting to the early months of Georgia's pregnancy. This would be especially intriguing if Ginny & Georgia season 4 revealed that something—some big dark secret—happened during this time-jump. By the end of season 4, the events of this gap would be all filled in, and audiences would be in for another big surprise.
